No Man’s Sky Worlds Part 2 Update Brings Massive New Planets & Biomes
If you thought No Man’s Sky was going to slow down as it nears its ninth birthday, well—nope. Hello Games is back with another massive update, stuffing its already infinite universe with even more planets, new biomes, and some seriously scary gas giants.
This update, Worlds Part 2 (yes, they went with the obvious name), builds on last year’s Worlds Part 1 and brings in a fancy new terrain generation system. Expect mountains so big they make your spaceship feel tiny, valleys deep enough to get lost in, and way more varied landscapes. There are also new biomes, meaning more weird and wonderful places to explore.
The Oceans Are Now Less... Fake
Water in No Man’s Sky just got a glow-up. Oceans can now be several kilometers deep, and they actually look deep, thanks to improved lighting and visual effects. Hello Games even threw in some new “extremely weird” creatures lurking in the depths. So, if you like your alien sea monsters extra unsettling, this update has you covered.
Better Lighting, Moodier Shadows, and Water That Actually Moves
The game’s lighting engine has been completely reworked. Shadows are sharper, light flickers through trees, and caves are darker and more atmospheric. Water can now reflect the sky and even reacts to the world around it—so if a giant spaceship flies overhead, expect some serious waves.
Gas Giants: Big, Stormy, and Probably Trying to Kill You
Now, let’s talk about those gas giants. They’re ten times bigger than the biggest planets No Man’s Sky has ever had. If you dare to fly down into their unstable cores, you’ll be greeted with brutal storms and intense weather hazards. Hello Games describes it as “true endgame stuff,” which is developer-speak for “good luck, you’ll probably die.”
New Quest, Better Cooking, and More Starships to Hoard
On top of all that, there’s a huge new quest tying together nine years of No Man’s Sky storytelling. If you’re into cooking, that’s been improved too (though no word on whether space pancakes are finally a thing). There’s also a new Colossus Refiner and a way to archive starships, because let’s be honest—you probably have more spaceships than you know what to do with.
A New Expedition Is Coming Soon
Finally, No Man’s Sky is gearing up for its next limited-time Expedition, called Titan. It’ll give players the chance to score a rare living starship. But before that, the Redux version of last year’s The Cursed expedition wraps up next week.
If you want all the nitty-gritty details, check out today’s patch notes or the developer’s deep dive video. But the short version? There are trillions of new planets, the oceans look great, and those gas giants are not messing around.
