Walking around at night without a torch in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a great way to get yelled at by guards, fined, or even thrown in the stocks. The game takes its realism seriously, so if you don’t light your way, expect trouble.

Getting and using a torch is simple once you know what you’re doing. Heres’ a quick guide.

How to Get a Torch the Easy Way

You start with a free torch early in the game, given to you by an NPC. If you lose it, sell it, or just forget where you put it, you’ll need a new one.

Here’s how to get one:

  • Buy one from a tavern owner. They almost always have torches in stock.

  • Check general stores and merchants.

  • Never pay full price. Torches are cheap, but haggling is a way of life in this game.

Once you have a torch, now comes the tricky part—actually using it.

How to Equip and Use a Torch

Just owning a torch won’t keep you out of trouble. You need to equip it and light it.

  1. Open your inventory.

  2. Look below your weapons for the torch.

  3. Equip it by selecting it or pressing X on PlayStation / A on Xbox.

That still won’t make Henry actually hold the torch. To pull it out and use it:

  • Hold down on the D-pad.

  • A circle will fill up in the bottom right of the screen.

  • Once full, Henry will bring out the torch.

With the torch lit and in hand, you can walk around without breaking medieval street laws. Guards will leave you alone, and you can actually see where you’re going.

Final Blurb

  • Always carry a torch at night unless you enjoy paying fines.

  • Haggle when buying a new one. Even cheap items shouldn’t be bought at full price.

  • Holding the D-pad is key. Just equipping the torch won’t do anything.

  • Don’t lose it. Torches are common, but losing one in the middle of nowhere is never fun.

Now you can wander the streets without getting arrested for improper lighting.
