Should You Destroy the Ruins or Not (Sever the Adra) in Avowed?

The "Shadow of the Past" quest in Avowed forces you to make a tough call: side with Lödwyn and destroy the ruins or side with Ryngrim and sever the adra. Neither option is great, and both have consequences.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what happens with each choice and whether or not you descide to destroy the ruins.
Option 1: Siding with Lödwyn (Destroy the Ruins)
Your companions—especially Yatzli—aren’t thrilled. They see it as wiping out valuable history.
Temerti and some Thirdborn citizens begin showing Dreamscourge symptoms afterward.
You get the Scion of the Immortal Land ability, boosting damage and health regen for 12 seconds (if you took Sapadal’s power).
The takeaway: You burn knowledge and make a few people sick, but at least you don’t get a full-on massacre.
Option 2: Siding with Ryngrim (Sever the Adra)
Your companions are less mad, but they still worry about the consequences.
They’re right to worry. Roughly three dozen people die, including Glaedwine (if you saved him in Dawnshore).
Temerti outright hates you for this, and citizens whisper about the deaths.
You get the Severed Branch ability, increasing movement speed for 20 seconds (if you took Sapadal’s power).
The takeaway: Fewer complaints from your team, but a lot more bodies in the streets.
So, Which Choice is Better? What Should You Do?
If you care about your companions’ feelings, severing the adra is slightly better.
If you don’t want innocent people dying, destroying the ruins is the safer bet.
If you want a stronger combat buff, Scion of the Immortal Land (Lödwyn’s choice) is more useful.
Either way, there’s no perfect answer—just pick your poison and live with the fallout.
