Castlevania Belmont's Curse How to Get Double Jump

Double Jump is one of the most useful traversal upgrades in Castlevania Belmont's Curse, but Rose cannot obtain it simply by reaching a particular room or finding an upgrade pickup. It sits at the end of a progression chain involving The Artist Tarot card, Brauner's Paintbrush, Notre Dame, and finally a boss fight with Death.

How to Get Double Jump in Castlevania Belmont's Curse

To get Double Jump in Castlevania Belmont's Curse, you need to defeat Death in the Choir Room of Notre Dame. Double Jump is awarded after the boss fight and becomes available immediately afterward.

The difficult part is reaching Death. Notre Dame is not available from the beginning, so you first need to complete the progression requirements that open the cathedral and then solve the Giant Organ sequence inside.

Double Jump Unlock: Defeat Death
Boss Location: Choir Room, Notre Dame
Main Requirements: The Artist Tarot card and Brauner's Paintbrush
Reward: Double Jump

What You Need Before Getting Double Jump

You cannot head directly to Death as soon as you start exploring the map. Two progression requirements have to be completed before Notre Dame can be entered.

  • Complete The Artist Tarot card.
  • Have the Smash movement ability, which is required for The Artist progression.
  • Defeat The Occultist in the Observatory.
  • Collect Brauner's Paintbrush from The Occultist.

If Notre Dame still appears inaccessible, check these requirements before spending time searching for another entrance. Double Jump is a late movement upgrade, so several earlier traversal abilities naturally feed into its unlock path.

How to Unlock Notre Dame

Once The Artist Tarot card is complete and you have Brauner's Paintbrush, return to the Main Hall and go to the Gallery of Eternal Night.

Equip the Masterpiece Arcana there and interact with the painting. This opens the route into Notre Dame, which is the region containing the Death encounter and therefore the final stretch toward Double Jump.

The important distinction is that Double Jump itself is not hidden somewhere in the cathedral. Notre Dame is simply the area you must unlock so you can reach the boss that awards it.

How to Reach Death in Notre Dame

Inside Notre Dame, your next objective is the Great Organ Room. The path to Death is blocked by magic affecting the Giant Organ, so you need to find the required musical patterns throughout the cathedral and reproduce them on the organ.

Completing the Giant Organ sequence clears the obstruction and opens the route toward Death's boss room in the Choir Room.

Defeat Death once you reach the encounter. There is no separate chest, pickup, or interaction required afterward to obtain Double Jump; beating the boss is the unlock condition.

How to Use Double Jump

After defeating Death, jump normally and press the jump input again while Rose is airborne to perform the second jump.

The extra jump gives you considerably more vertical reach and also extends how far you can travel through the air. That makes it useful both for continuing forward and for revisiting earlier areas where platforms or collectibles were previously just outside Rose's normal jumping range.

Because Double Jump comes after several other traversal upgrades, obtaining it is also a good point to revisit locations you previously left incomplete. Areas that looked intentionally unreachable earlier may now be accessible without needing another movement ability.
