Permafrost How to Fast Travel
Traveling across the frozen world of Permafrost can take a considerable amount of time, especially when you're carrying supplies between settlements. Fast travel lets you skip these journeys, but you must discover and activate travel points before using them. There are five existing locations across the map, along with a separate option to build your own later in the game.

How to Fast Travel in Permafrost
To fast travel in Permafrost, find a wooden travel post with a sled attached and interact with it to unlock the location. Once you've activated at least two posts, interact with one, select Travel, and choose another unlocked destination on your map.
You only need to activate each post once. Afterward, you can travel between previously unlocked locations without walking the entire distance again.
1. Find a wooden fast travel post in a settlement.
2. Approach the post and use the displayed interaction button to unlock it.
3. Discover and unlock another fast travel post somewhere else on the map.
4. Return to either post and select Travel.
5. Choose an unlocked destination to travel there.
The main requirement is having at least two activated locations. Unlocking one post gives you access to the travel system, but you still need somewhere else to travel.
Where to Unlock Your First Fast Travel Point
You can unlock a fast travel point at Horizon, the first safe settlement you reach after leaving the starting area. The post is in the open square near Robyn's cabin, on a raised wooden platform to the left of her porch.
Look for a snow-covered wooden post with a sled beside it. Approach until the Fast Travel: Horizon interaction appears, then activate it. Unlocking this existing post is free and doesn't require crafting materials or completing a special quest.
I would activate it as soon as you arrive at Horizon, even though you can't immediately travel anywhere. Doing so ensures the settlement is ready to use as a destination once you've discovered another post.
All Fast Travel Locations in Permafrost
There are five existing fast travel posts spread across Permafrost's safe settlements. You'll need to reach each location on foot at least once before it becomes available for fast travel.
Horizon
In the main square beside Robyn's cabin. A useful starting point for returning to the first settlement.
Solar Fields
Located at the Solar Power Plant. Look for the post labeled Solar Fields rather than Solar Power Plant.
Church
Found in the Church safe zone, providing access to the settlement and its traders.
Crow's Nest
Located inside the Crow's Nest settlement, home to Jeremiah Crow.
The Last Stand
Found at The Last Stand safe zone, providing another travel destination farther across the map.
One useful distinction is that not every safe zone has a fast travel post. Permafrost has seven named safe zones but only five existing travel posts, so discovering a settlement doesn't automatically mean you can fast travel there.
I would prioritize unlocking posts whenever you visit a new settlement rather than making dedicated trips later. This gives you a growing network of destinations for returning to traders, collecting supplies, and revisiting previous areas.
Why Can't You Fast Travel in Permafrost?
Fast travel becomes temporarily unavailable during combat and severe snowstorms. Even if you've unlocked multiple destinations, these conditions prevent you from using the system until the danger has passed.
There are also a few reasons a location might not appear as an available destination.
Only One Post Unlocked:
Discover and activate a second post before trying to travel.
Currently in Combat:
Leave combat before attempting to use fast travel.
Severe Snowstorm:
Wait for conditions to improve before traveling.
Destination Missing:
Visit the settlement and manually unlock its travel post.
Trying to Travel From a Bed:
Beds are for resting and respawning, not fast travel.
Fast travel also cannot serve as an emergency escape from dangerous encounters or worsening storms. You'll still need to reach safety normally before using it, so don't depend on a travel post to rescue you during exploration.
Can You Build Your Own Fast Travel Points?
Yes, Permafrost also has a craftable Fast Travel Point that becomes available through a quest-related blueprint later in the story. This is separate from the five existing posts, which can be unlocked without learning the crafting recipe.
Once you unlock the buildable version, you can use it to make traveling between your base and discovered destinations more convenient.
However, you don't need to wait for the blueprint to start fast traveling. Activating the existing settlement posts is enough, and I would make that a priority before worrying about constructing your own.
For most players, the best approach is to unlock Horizon immediately, activate additional posts as you explore, and eventually connect your base once the crafting option becomes available. That gives you useful shortcuts throughout the campaign without requiring additional travel just to set them up.
