Gears of War E-Day How to Get Coins

Coins are the free currency used to purchase skins and other cosmetics in Gears of War: E-Day. While multiplayer matches provide a regular source of Coins, certain activities can earn you additional rewards without spending more time grinding matches. There are also weekly limits to consider, especially if you're trying to save for an expensive skin.

How to Get Coins in Gears of War E-Day

You can get Coins in Gears of War: E-Day by completing Versus and Horde Siege matches, reaching Player Level milestones, and earning medals. Both multiplayer modes award Coins after matches based on your performance and score, so you don't need to rely exclusively on challenges to earn currency.

There are three confirmed sources of Coins:

Versus and Horde Siege: Earn Coins from multiplayer match rewards.

Player Levels: Receive Coins every 10 Player Levels.

Medals: Earn additional Coins by unlocking qualifying medals and higher medal tiers.

Match rewards are the most consistent source because you earn them through regular multiplayer activity. However, leveling and medals can provide additional payouts during the same sessions, meaning you can accumulate Coins from multiple sources at once.

You can spend your earned Coins on eligible cosmetics in the Barracks. Iron is the separate premium currency, so you don't need to purchase it to earn Coins through gameplay.

Fastest Way to Farm Coins in Gears of War E-Day

For players primarily interested in farming Coins, I would recommend starting with Versus Quickplay. Its shorter matches let you earn rewards more frequently, making it a practical alternative to spending longer periods in Horde Siege.

Early player reports suggest Versus can offer particularly good returns for the time invested. One player reported accumulating around 15,600 Coins after approximately three hours of play, primarily through Quickplay alongside the Horde tutorial. However, that isn't a guaranteed earning rate, since individual performance and other rewards can affect the total.

Horde Siege also awards Coins, but its longer missions don't necessarily produce better earnings per hour. Some players have reported slower accumulation while focusing primarily on Horde, although the results vary depending on performance and completion times.

Want Coins as Quickly as Possible?
Start with Versus Quickplay and complete matches consistently.

Prefer Horde Siege?
Focus on completing missions reliably rather than repeatedly attempting difficulties your squad cannot finish.

Want the Most From Each Session?
Choose matches that also advance medals and Player Level milestones.

One thing worth measuring is your actual Coins earned per minute. A large Horde payout isn't necessarily better than several smaller Versus rewards if the Horde mission takes significantly longer.

For example, track your starting Coin balance, play a few matches in one mode, and compare your total increase against the time spent. This gives you a better picture of which mode is more efficient for your own performance instead of relying on someone else's reported earnings.

How to Earn Extra Coins Without Farming More Matches

Player Level milestones and medals are especially valuable because they provide Coin rewards separate from your regular match payouts. If you're already playing multiplayer, you can work toward both without dedicating an entirely separate session to farming.

Every 10 Player Levels awards a batch of Coins, so reaching Levels 10, 20, 30, and later milestones provides additional currency. Once you reach Level 100, you can also continue the broader leveling system through the process covered in our Gears of War E-Day Re-Up guide.

Medals are another source worth prioritizing. Many provide Coins when earned, and higher medal tiers can offer larger rewards. Rather than chasing every medal simultaneously, check which objectives are closest to completion and focus on finishing those first.

My preferred approach would be to combine all three earning methods: play a mode you're comfortable with, focus on a medal you can realistically complete, and collect Player Level rewards along the way.

How Many Coins Can You Earn Per Week?

Gears of War: E-Day has a weekly limit of 25,000 Coins from multiplayer match rewards, alongside a maximum wallet balance of 50,000 Coins. These are separate restrictions, and understanding the difference can prevent you from wasting time farming rewards you can no longer collect.

Weekly Match Coin Cap: 25,000
Maximum Coin Balance: 50,000
Weekly Match Cap Reset: Tuesday at 11 AM Eastern Standard Time, according to the published schedule
Level and Medal Rewards: Excluded from the weekly match cap

The weekly limit only restricts Coins earned from completing matches. You can still collect qualifying medal rewards and Player Level milestone Coins after reaching 25,000 match-earned Coins for the week.

The 50,000-Coin wallet limit is different. Once your balance reaches that amount, additional Coins can be lost because your wallet cannot hold any more. If you're approaching the maximum, spend some Coins before collecting another large reward.

For efficient farming, I would prioritize regular Versus or Horde Siege matches until your weekly match allowance is exhausted, then concentrate on unfinished medals and upcoming Player Level milestones. That way, you can continue earning Coins even when ordinary multiplayer rewards have reached their limit.
