Planet Zoo 2 Franchise Mode Down: Server Error Fix

Planet Zoo 2 players are running into Franchise Mode connection errors that can make the game appear offline even when their internet is working normally. The problem has been especially common around launch, with players reporting failed connections, endless loading, being returned to the main menu, and Franchise zoos refusing to open.

Is Planet Zoo 2 Franchise Mode Down?

If you are getting a Franchise server error around launch, there is a good chance the problem is on Frontier's side rather than with your own internet connection. Players are reporting the same connection failures despite otherwise working internet, including Planet Zoo 2 showing them as offline or refusing to load Franchise Mode at all.

That does not mean every Franchise error is necessarily a server outage, but widespread reports across different systems make a server-side problem much more likely when the issue suddenly affects a large number of players at once.

Some players have managed to reconnect after restarting the game, while others continue receiving the same error after multiple restarts. That inconsistency also fits with an overloaded or unstable online service rather than one universal problem with local game installations.

Why Planet Zoo 2 Says It Can't Connect to the Franchise Server

Franchise Mode requires an online connection because its zoos use connected online systems. Animal Trading allows players to trade Habitat Animals with other players, Community Challenges rely on online functionality, and Conservation Credits are shared between the zoos in your Franchise.

That also means Franchise is affected when those online services become overloaded or temporarily unavailable. Your PC, console, Steam connection, or home network can all be working normally while Planet Zoo 2 still reports that it cannot communicate with the Franchise server.

If Career and Sandbox continue working while Franchise does not, and other players are reporting the same problem at the same time, there is little reason to immediately start changing router settings or reinstalling the game.

How to Fix Planet Zoo 2 Franchise Mode Not Working

There are several quick checks worth trying before assuming something is wrong with your installation. The most useful fixes are those that force Planet Zoo 2 to establish a completely new online session or make sure your copy of the game is running the latest available version.

  • Restart Planet Zoo 2 completely.
  • Restart Steam, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S.
  • Check Planet Zoo 2 for a pending update.
  • Confirm your platform is connected to its online services.
  • Try entering Franchise Mode again after a few minutes.
  • If other players are also unable to connect, wait and try again later.

A restart can fix a failed or stale session, and some players have reported getting back into Franchise after relaunching. Others have found that restarting changes nothing, however, so do not assume repeated relaunches will fix an outage affecting Frontier's servers.

Restart Planet Zoo 2 and Your Platform

Start by closing Planet Zoo 2 completely rather than simply backing out of Franchise Mode or returning to the main menu. Relaunch the game and attempt to connect again.

On PC, completely exit and reopen Steam as well. On PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, closing Planet Zoo 2 and restarting the console can similarly force the game to establish a new connection rather than continuing to use the same failed session.

This is worth trying once because players have reported successful connections after restarting. If you repeatedly receive the same server message afterward, particularly while other players are having identical problems, continuing to restart is unlikely to accomplish much.

Check for a Planet Zoo 2 Update

Make sure Planet Zoo 2 is fully updated before moving into more complicated troubleshooting. Online modes can have problems communicating correctly if your client is running a different version from the one currently expected by the game's servers.

Steam normally downloads updates automatically, although restarting Steam can force another update check. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players can manually check Planet Zoo 2 for available updates through the console's game options.

There are also player reports of Franchise beginning to work after updating PC drivers. That makes a driver check worth considering if the problem appears isolated to your machine, but it should not be treated as a general fix for a widespread Franchise outage. Updating a graphics driver will not repair overloaded game servers.

Confirm Planet Zoo 2 Is Actually Online

Franchise cannot be played offline. Planet Zoo 2's official documentation specifically lists an online connection as a requirement for the mode because Franchise includes connected zoos, player Animal Trading, Community Challenges, and shared Conservation Credits.

If Planet Zoo 2 is showing you as offline, verify that Steam, PlayStation Network, or Xbox network services are connected normally. You can also check whether other online parts of Planet Zoo 2 are behaving normally.

A strong Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection does not automatically rule out a Franchise server problem. Your own connection only gets the game to Frontier's online services; those services still need to be available and able to establish the session.

Franchise Zoo Creation Can Also Fail

The connection problem is not limited to opening an existing Franchise. Some players are able to enter the mode but encounter errors when creating a new zoo, while others have reported strange behavior depending on whether they name the zoo during creation.

That kind of inconsistent behavior makes it risky to assume the new zoo itself is broken. If creation works during one attempt and fails during another while Franchise connectivity is unstable, the online service is a more likely culprit than the zoo name or map.

Avoid repeatedly deleting and recreating Franchise zoos solely because of these connection errors. There is little benefit to rebuilding something locally when the failure may be happening during communication with the server.

What to Do If Franchise Mode Still Doesn't Work

If you have restarted the game, confirmed Planet Zoo 2 is updated, verified that your platform is online, and are still seeing the same error alongside widespread reports from other players, the practical fix is to wait and retry Franchise later.

Server problems can also be intermittent. One player may reconnect while someone else continues receiving an error, and a successful connection does not necessarily mean the broader issue has completely cleared.

Career and Sandbox are alternatives while Franchise connectivity is unavailable. Franchise is the mode that specifically requires an online connection, so a Franchise outage does not necessarily prevent the rest of Planet Zoo 2 from being played.

Most importantly, avoid reinstalling the entire game simply because Franchise is temporarily failing to connect. If the same error is appearing for players on different systems and networks at the same time, reinstalling local game files is unlikely to address the cause.
