Planet Zoo 2 How to Connect Water Filter

Water Filters in Planet Zoo 2 do not connect directly to an Aquarium wall. The filtration system runs through the Aquarium Staff Gate, which has the node used to attach the tank to a Filtration Network. If the filter is placed correctly but nothing is happening, the usual problems are the wrong connection point, no power, an inaccessible facility entrance, or a network that does not provide enough Filtration Rate for the Aquarium.

How to Connect a Water Filter in Planet Zoo 2

To connect a Water Filter in Planet Zoo 2, build the filter as part of a Filtration Network, then connect that network to the node located on the Aquarium Staff Gate. The Water Filter itself also needs to be within range of a working power source before the filtration system can function.

The connection point is the important part. You are not looking for a node somewhere along the Aquarium Barrier. Planet Zoo 2 routes the filtration system through the Staff Gate, so that is where the Aquarium joins the network.

  • Build an Aquarium with an Aquarium Staff Gate.
  • Place a Water Filter for the Filtration Network.
  • Make sure the Water Filter is within range of a power source.
  • Connect the Filtration Network to the node on the Aquarium Staff Gate.
  • Check that the network's Filtration Rate is high enough for the tank.
  • Set the network to the salinity required by your animals.

The Water Filter Connects to the Aquarium Staff Gate

If you cannot figure out where to attach the Water Filter, look at the Aquarium Staff Gate rather than the Aquarium Barrier itself. The Staff Gate contains the node that allows the Aquarium to connect to a Filtration Network.

This also makes the Staff Gate a key piece of Aquarium infrastructure instead of simply an entrance for Keepers. The same Aquarium can depend on that area for staff access, filtration connectivity, and other management functions, so it is worth leaving enough room around the gate when laying out the tank.

If you have already built most of the Aquarium and cannot find anywhere to connect the filter, check whether you actually installed an Aquarium Staff Gate. Without the proper gate and its network node, you do not have the required connection point.

How to Fix Invalid Rotation When Placing the Water Filter

If Planet Zoo 2 keeps showing an Invalid Rotation message while you are trying to place the Water Filter, check which direction the facility's staff entrance is facing.

The white arrow shown on the ground marks the side staff use to enter the facility. If that side is blocked or facing somewhere staff cannot reach, the game can reject the placement even though the Water Filter itself appears to fit in the space.

Rotate the filter so its staff entrance faces an accessible area. In one common setup, simply turning the facility 180 degrees is enough to make the placement valid.

This is easy to mistake for a problem with the filtration connection itself. If the error appears before you have even connected the network, solve the facility orientation first and then handle the Aquarium connection.

Make Sure the Water Filter Has Power

A connected Water Filter will not function unless the facility is powered. Water Filters require a nearby power source just like other powered facilities in Planet Zoo 2.

If your Filtration Network appears to be connected correctly but Aquarium water is still deteriorating, check the filter's power coverage before rebuilding the network.

Standard generators can provide the required power, while eco-friendly power facilities offer other benefits including no running costs and contribution toward the zoo's Sustainability Rating, although they cost more to build initially.

Your Filtration Rate Must Exceed the Aquarium's Demand

Connecting the Water Filter is only the first requirement. The Filtration Network must also provide enough Filtration Rate to meet the Aquarium's demand.

Planet Zoo 2 calculates filtration demand based partly on the amount of water in the Aquarium and the number of animals living in it. That means a filtration setup that works for a small tank may become insufficient after you expand the Aquarium or add more animals.

If the connected network's Filtration Rate falls below the tank's demand, Water Cleanliness will gradually decrease. Increasing the available filtration until it meets or exceeds the demand allows the Aquarium's Water Cleanliness to recover.

  • Larger water volume increases filtration demand.
  • More animals increase filtration demand.
  • Filtration Rate needs to meet or exceed that demand.
  • Insufficient filtration causes Water Cleanliness to drop over time.

Set the Correct Aquarium Salinity

Filtration Networks do more than clean the water. They also filter it to a selected salinity: Freshwater, Brackish, or Saltwater.

The correct setting depends on the species living in the Aquarium, so check the Zoopedia before moving animals into the tank. A filtration system can be physically connected and powerful enough while still providing the wrong water conditions for the species you are keeping.

This becomes especially important when planning multiple Aquariums. Do not assume every aquatic animal can use the same water setup simply because both tanks are connected to filtration.

Why the Aquarium Can Still Become Dirty After Connecting the Filter

Planet Zoo 2 tracks Water Cleanliness and Tank Cleanliness separately. The Filtration Network manages the water itself, while Keepers need to enter the Aquarium and clean the tank over time.

That means a working Water Filter does not eliminate Aquarium maintenance. Tank Cleanliness will still decline and needs to be restored by Keepers, while poor Water Cleanliness can make Tank Cleanliness deteriorate faster.

If either cleanliness value falls too low, the Aquarium can become a disease risk for its animals. Check both values rather than assuming the Water Filter is broken whenever the tank begins getting dirty.

Connect Filtration Before Moving Aquatic Animals In

It is better to finish the Aquarium's filtration, power, salinity, and basic environment before introducing animals. Fully aquatic species have their own requirements for water conditions, temperature, cleanliness, space, and enrichment, and problems begin quickly when the tank is not ready for them.

If you have not acquired your aquatic species yet, the Planet Zoo 2 how to get animals guide covers Animal Trading, Animal Storage, and moving newly adopted animals into their enclosure.

Once the Water Filter is powered, the Filtration Network is connected to the Aquarium Staff Gate, and the available Filtration Rate exceeds the tank's demand, the filtration side of the Aquarium is ready to support its animals.
