Star Wars Galactic Racer How to Drift

Drifting is one of the most important driving mechanics in Star Wars: Galactic Racer. The fastest tracks regularly throw sharp corners, narrow routes, and hazards at you, so learning how to rotate the vehicle without dumping all of your speed makes a huge difference in both Campaign and Arcade.

How to Drift in Star Wars: Galactic Racer

To drift in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, keep accelerating as you approach the turn, use your Drift input to rotate the vehicle, and feather the brake to control how tightly you come around the corner.

The important part is that braking and drifting are not separate techniques. You can brake while still holding the accelerator, which lets you scrub just enough speed to tighten the turn without completely killing your momentum.

Basic Drift: Stay on the accelerator + use Drift through the corner
Turn is too tight: Feather the brake while drifting
You keep going wide: Brake slightly earlier or use more brake pressure
You lose too much speed: Use less brake and keep the accelerator held
Main Goal: Rotate through the corner without throwing away all your speed

Instead of treating the brake like an emergency stop, think of it as a way to shape the drift. Small adjustments are usually more useful than holding the brake for the entire turn.

How to Take Tight Corners

The easiest way to handle a sharp corner is to set the vehicle up before you actually reach it.

Watch the lights and track markers around the outside of upcoming turns. They indicate the direction of the corner and give you time to position your vehicle before you are already committed to the turn.

As you approach:

1. Move toward a better entry line before reaching the corner.
2. Keep accelerating as you begin the turn.
3. Start the drift instead of waiting until you are already flying off the track.
4. Feather the brake if the vehicle is not rotating quickly enough.
5. Reduce brake pressure as soon as you are lined up with the exit.
6. Carry as much remaining speed as possible onto the next straight.

The best line is not always the visually shortest route. A shortcut that forces you into a wall or leaves you badly positioned for the next corner can cost more time than taking a slightly longer but much cleaner line.

How to Stop Drifting Wide

If your biggest problem is sliding past the outside of every corner, you are usually entering too fast without using enough brake to tighten the drift.

Do not immediately give up all your acceleration. Keep the gas held and begin adding short brake inputs during the drift. If you still run wide, brake a little earlier on the next attempt.

If the opposite starts happening and you are crawling out of the corner, you are probably braking too aggressively. Back off the brake sooner and let the vehicle carry more momentum through the exit.

Flying into the outside wall: Brake earlier or harder.
Vehicle will not rotate enough: Start the drift earlier and combine it with braking.
Losing huge amounts of speed: Reduce how long you hold the brake.
Coming out facing the wrong direction: Release the drift sooner and straighten the vehicle before accelerating away.

You are looking for the middle ground where the vehicle rotates enough to hit the exit while still carrying enough speed to immediately accelerate away.

How to Drift While Using Ramjet

You do not always need to turn Ramjet off before a corner.

You can keep Ramjet active, hold the accelerator, and aggressively feather the brake while using Drift to pull the vehicle through a turn. This lets you preserve far more speed than simply shutting everything down before every difficult corner.

There is obviously more risk involved. Ramjet builds engine heat while active, so trying to manage heat, braking, steering, and drifting at the same time takes practice.

For easier corners, keeping Ramjet active can be extremely fast. For a corner you consistently crash on, however, surviving the turn cleanly is more valuable than forcing maximum boost through it.

Abilities such as Vent can also make this easier by cooling your Ramjet while you continue using it, giving you more room to maintain speed without overheating.

What Is the Best Vehicle for Drifting?

Your vehicle choice changes how drifting feels.

Speeder Bikes are strong for weaving through tight sections because of their smaller size, while Skim Speeders have a higher learning curve but can become particularly strong for precise, tight drifting once you get used to their handling.

Landspeeders are more balanced, which can make them a comfortable choice while learning the basic system before moving into something more specialized.

That does not mean you need to switch vehicles just to drift successfully. Every vehicle still benefits from learning how to combine Drift, acceleration, and braking correctly.

Best Upgrades for Drifting and Cornering

If your Tour build is struggling through corners, prioritize upgrades that improve Cornering and Drift-related handling before dumping everything into raw top speed.

A faster vehicle does not help much if every difficult corner sends you into a wall.

Cornering upgrades make it easier to maintain cleaner lines, while Afterburner and Ramjet upgrades become more valuable once you are already comfortable keeping that additional speed under control.

Your permanent Tuning Points can also be spent on Cornering between Tours, so check your vehicle upgrades before starting another run instead of immediately jumping back into the Campaign.

Best Way to Practice Drifting

Arcade is the best place to practice difficult corners because you can repeatedly learn the same tracks without worrying about throwing away an otherwise strong Campaign Tour.

If one particular corner keeps causing problems, run it repeatedly and change one thing at a time. Brake slightly earlier, use less brake, start the drift sooner, or try a different entry line until you find something you can reproduce consistently.

This is also useful if you are working toward the game's achievement list. Big Mystery Racer requires 50 Gold Arcade times, so learning to carry speed through corners eventually becomes much more than a basic driving skill.

Our Star Wars: Galactic Racer achievements guide covers all 49 achievements, including the Arcade Gold requirements and the larger Galactic Gauntlet challenges.

The main thing to practice is not simply pressing Drift more often. Galactic Racer rewards combining Drift with acceleration and small brake adjustments, then changing the amount of brake based on how sharp the corner actually is. Once that starts feeling natural, the same turns that initially force you to slow down dramatically can be taken while carrying significantly more speed.
