Spotting on Controller (Xbox and PlayStation)

  • Default spot key: LB

  • Grenade: RB

  • Classic RB-spotting is not default anymore, but can be manually restored in settings

  • Holding LB opens the CommoRose

This layout breaks from Battlefield 4 muscle memory. If you're used to aiming with LT and tapping RB to spot, the new layout may feel awkward. You’ll need to remap RB to spot and LB to grenade if you want the classic flow back.

Spotting on PC

  • Default spot key: Q

  • Alternate input: Middle Mouse Button

  • Holding either opens the CommoRose

PC controls haven’t changed from Battlefield 1, 5, or 2042. Quick tapping spots enemies. Holding gives access to squad commands and communication options.

Spotting Tips

Spotting only works when aiming near an enemy.
You must be looking directly at a target in range.
Enemies will be marked with a red indicator if successful.

Spotting resets quickly.
Keep tagging during firefights.
Your squad gets XP when acting on your spot.

Use spotting before peeking corners, pushing objectives, or covering allies.
It’s one of the strongest non-lethal tools in the game.

How to Rebind Spotting Controls

  1. Open the Settings menu

  2. Go to Controller or Keyboard settings

  3. Select Customize Bindings

  4. Swap LB and RB functions manually

  5. Save and test in Training or Solo mode

You can’t choose a preset like "Classic BF4 layout" yet, but full rebinding is supported.

Final Blurb

Spotting in Battlefield 6 is still a core mechanic, but controller players will need to adjust. The new LB default breaks old habits, though you can rebind back to RB if needed. Learn your layout early to avoid tossing a grenade when you meant to ping.
