If Split Fiction is crashing on PC or not launching at all, you’re not alone. Whether it's freezing mid-game, closing without warning, or refusing to start, there are a few common reasons for these issues—plus some simple fixes.

Why Is Split Fiction Crashing?

Here are the main reasons the game might not be running smoothly:

  • Admin Permissions – The game might need higher privileges.

  • Corrupt Game Files – Missing or broken files can cause crashes.

  • Outdated Drivers – Your GPU or Windows updates could be behind.

  • Low Disk Space – Not enough room to run the game properly.

  • Graphics Settings – Some settings may be too high for your system.

Quick Fixes Before You Try Anything Else

Before diving into advanced solutions, try these simple steps:

• Restart the game (and Steam/Epic Games if you’re using a launcher).
• Check your internet connection (especially if you’re playing online).
• Make sure your PC meets the minimum requirements.
• Turn off overlays (like Steam Overlay, Discord Overlay, etc.).

If none of that works, try the fixes below.

1. Run Split Fiction as an Administrator

Some games need extra permissions to work properly.

  1. Right-click Split Fiction in your Steam Library.

  2. Select Manage > Browse local files.

  3. Find the SplitFiction.exe file, right-click it, and choose Properties.

  4. Go to the Compatibility tab.

  5. Check Run this program as an administrator.

  6. Click Apply, then OK.

2. Verify the Integrity of Game Files

Missing or corrupted files can make the game crash. Here’s how to fix that:

  1. Open Steam and go to your Library.

  2. Right-click Split Fiction and select Properties.

  3. Click on Installed Files.

  4. Choose Verify integrity of game files.

  5. Wait for the process to complete, then restart the game.

3. Update Your Graphics Drivers

Outdated GPU drivers are a common cause of crashes.

  • For NVIDIA Users:

    1. Open GeForce Experience.

    2. Go to the Drivers tab.

    3. Click Check for Updates and install any available ones.

  • For AMD Users:

    1. Open AMD Radeon Software.

    2. Go to the Drivers & Software section.

    3. Click Check for Updates and install them.

You can also update your drivers manually through Device Manager (press Win + X, select Device Manager, then expand Display Adapters).

4. Lower Your Graphics Settings

If Split Fiction is crashing mid-game, your settings might be too high.

  1. Open the game and go to Settings.

  2. Try lowering these:

    • Resolution – Set it to 1080p.

    • VSync – Turn it off.

    • Ray Tracing – Disable it.

    • Graphics Preset – Set to Low or Medium.

  3. Restart the game and see if it works better.

5. Allow Split Fiction Through Your Firewall

Your firewall might be blocking the game from running properly.

  1. Press Win + I to open Settings.

  2. Go to Update & Security > Windows Security.

  3. Click Firewall & network protection.

  4. Select Allow an app through firewall.

  5. Find Split Fiction in the list. If it’s not there, click Allow another app and add it manually.

  6. Make sure both Private and Public are checked.

  7. Click OK and restart the game.

6. Change the Launch Options

Sometimes forcing the game to run on a specific version of DirectX can fix crashes.

  1. Open Steam and go to your Library.

  2. Right-click Split Fiction and select Properties.

  3. Under Launch Options, type:

    • -dx11 (for DirectX 11)

    • Or -dx12 (for DirectX 12)

  4. Close the window and try launching the game.

7. Delete Temporary Game Files (Cache Reset)

Corrupt game cache files can cause launching issues.

  1. Press Win + R and type %appdata%, then hit Enter.

  2. Find the Split Fiction folder and delete it.

  3. Go to C:\Users\YourUsername\Documents\Split Fiction and delete any cache files.

  4. Restart your PC and try launching the game again.

8. Increase Virtual Memory (If You Have Low RAM)

If your PC doesn’t have enough memory, increasing virtual memory can help.

  1. Press Win + R and type sysdm.cpl, then hit Enter.

  2. Go to the Advanced tab and click Settings under Performance.

  3. Click on the Advanced tab again and select Change under Virtual Memory.

  4. Uncheck Automatically manage paging file size for all drives.

  5. Select Custom size and enter:

    • Initial size: 24576 MB (for 16GB RAM)

    • Maximum size: 49152 MB (for 16GB RAM)

  6. Click Set > OK > Apply. Restart your PC.

Final Blurb

If Split Fiction is crashing or not launching, start with simple fixes like verifying game files and updating drivers. If that doesn’t work, try lowering graphics settings, adjusting firewall settings, or running the game as an admin. Hopefully, one of these fixes gets you back to playing!
