How to Get Charcoal in Aloft
Charcoal is like the unsung hero of Aloft. You’ll need it for fueling fires, filtering water, sketching plans, and more. But because you can’t make it yourself (yet), you’ll have to hunt for it in the environment. Don’t worry, though—it’s not as hard as it sounds. Here’s your guide to getting Charcoal without losing your sanity.
Where to Find Charcoal
1. Burned Tree Stumps
Look for burned tree stumps scattered around the islands.
Use an Axe or Pickaxe to dismantle them and collect your Charcoal.
These stumps can even appear on the starting island, so no excuses about not knowing where to start.
2. Extinguished Fire Pits
Find extinguished fire pits on islands and dismantle them with your trusty Axe or Pickaxe.
Pro Tip: If it looks like a sad campfire that saw better days, it’s probably what you’re looking for.
Other Ways to Get Charcoal
Loot Chests
Sometimes Charcoal shows up in random chests. If you see a chest, loot it—don’t ask questions.
Dismantle Extra Sketchbooks
Found an extra Sketchbook? Dismantle it! Each one breaks down into useful components, including Charcoal.
Charcoal Respawns? Nope.
Unfortunately, burned tree stumps and extinguished fire pits don’t regenerate over time. Once you’ve cleared them, they’re gone for good.
But Don’t Panic!
You can create a new world, take your current character there, and harvest more Charcoal from the fresh islands.
Once you’ve looted enough, return to your primary world, and your inventory will still have the Charcoal you collected.
Tips for Stockpiling Charcoal
Visit Every Island: Don’t skip any islands—burned stumps and fire pits can show up anywhere.
Keep Spare Sketchbooks: They’re more than just decoration.
Switch Worlds: When in doubt, hop to a new world for a fresh batch of resources.
Why You Need Charcoal
