KCD2 How to Fix Horse Won’t Sprint

Nothing kills the immersion of riding through medieval Bohemia quite like a horse that refuses to sprint. One moment, you’re ready to charge into battle or escape a group of bandits, and the next, you’re awkwardly trotting along as if your horse has suddenly lost all motivation. If your trusty steed is stuck at a slow pace, here’s what might be causing the issue and how to fix it.

1. Check Your Horse’s Weight Limit

Even if your horse isn’t officially overburdened, it might stop sprinting if it’s carrying exactly its maximum weight. For example, if the limit is 165 pounds and you’ve filled every pound, the game may treat this as too much.

What to do:

  • Keep the load slightly below the maximum by dropping or transferring a few items.

  • Move some gear to your own inventory or stash it in a chest to see if that makes a difference.

2. Are You in a No-Gallop Zone?

Certain areas, such as towns and villages, prevent horses from galloping. The game imposes invisible restrictions in these locations, making it impossible to sprint no matter how much you mash the button.

What to do:

  • Leave the town or village and try sprinting again.

  • If your horse suddenly speeds up once you’re outside, then the game’s restrictions were the problem.

3. Are You Out of Stamina?

Just like Henry, horses get tired too. If you’ve been sprinting too much, your horse might need a short break before it can run again.

What to do:

  • Slow down and let your horse recover for a few seconds before trying to sprint again.

  • Instead of constantly holding the sprint button, use short bursts to manage stamina better.

4. Does Your Horse Need Food?

There’s no official hunger mechanic for horses in the game, but some players believe feeding them helps with sprinting issues.

What to do:

  • Try feeding your horse oats or apples from your inventory.

  • Even if it doesn’t fix the problem, your horse will appreciate the treat.

5. Is Your Game Just Bugged?

If none of the above solutions work, this might be one of Kingdom Come’s occasional quirks.

What to do:

  • Dismount and remount to see if that resets the issue.

  • Save and reload your game.

  • Restart the game if the problem persists.

Final Blurb

A horse that won’t sprint is usually carrying too much weight, stuck in a no-gallop zone, or simply out of stamina. If those aren’t the problem, feeding it might be worth a try. If all else fails, reloading or restarting the game is your best bet.

If none of that works, then congratulations—you now own the most stubborn horse in Bohemia.
