Palworld 1.0 Shadowbeak Location Guide
Shadowbeak is still obtainable in the original Palpagos map after the Palworld 1.0 update, but its low appearance rate has made the old location seem incorrect. Players can spend several complete visits searching the wrong sanctuary, checking only at night, or waiting beside one spawn point when the better approach is to cycle the entire island’s Pal population.

Shadowbeak Location in Palworld 1.0
Shadowbeak is found at Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3, the high-level sanctuary island on the far eastern edge of the map near the large northeastern desert. It can appear as a normal wild Pal throughout the sanctuary during both daytime and nighttime.
Do not confuse it with Wildlife Sanctuary No. 2, the island associated with the blue lava environment. Reports placing Shadowbeak at the blue lava sanctuary are pointing players toward the wrong island. Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3 is the one located near the desert region where Paladius and Necromus are found.
Shadowbeak does not appear at one permanent boss marker. It joins the sanctuary’s general spawn pool, so its exact position can change whenever the local Pals refresh. Players have reported seeing it near the cave entrance and on the opposite side of the island, which makes a complete loop more effective than waiting at one landmark.
| Location Detail | Current 1.0 Information |
|---|---|
| Region | Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3 |
| Map area | Far eastern edge near the northeastern desert |
| Spawn type | Rare normal sanctuary spawn |
| Time requirement | Appears during both day and night |
| World Tree spawn | No |
How to Reach Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3
Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3 is separated from the mainland, so you will need a flying mount or a capable swimming Pal to reach it. Flying is the easier option because it lets you approach from above, inspect the active spawns, and move between the sanctuary’s different elevations without repeatedly climbing the structures.
Surfent can make the trip across the water, although a flyer is considerably more useful once the search begins. Shadowbeak may appear on different sides of the island, and traveling over the rooftops allows you to check each group without fighting through everything along the ground.
Land on raised structures whenever you need to pause and scan the area. The sanctuary contains dangerous Pals and other hazards, so circling from the air and choosing a controlled landing point is safer than dropping directly into the first group you see.
For stronger options that can handle the longer flight and repeated island loops, see our Palworld 1.0 flying mounts list.
What to Do When Shadowbeak Will Not Spawn
Shadowbeak appears to be one of the rarer members of the Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3 spawn pool. Arriving once, checking the nearest platform, and leaving is therefore unlikely to produce consistent results.
Begin by making a full circuit of the island. Check the area near the cave entrance, travel across the central sanctuary structures, and inspect the opposite side before deciding that no Shadowbeak is active.
If none appears, capture or defeat the Pals currently occupying the sanctuary. Removing existing groups allows new Pals to enter the spawn pool, and players have reported finding Shadowbeak after spending several minutes clearing the island rather than repeatedly flying away with every spawn left untouched.
A reliable search pattern is:
| Step | What to Do |
|---|---|
| 1 | Fly one complete loop around Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3 |
| 2 | Check the cave side, central platforms, and opposite coastline |
| 3 | Capture or defeat the existing Pal groups |
| 4 | Move far enough away for the area to refresh |
| 5 | Return and repeat the same full circuit |
Do not assume the world is bugged after two or three empty visits. Some players have found multiple Shadowbeaks within a short period, while others have searched for hours before seeing one. The location is fixed, but the individual spawn still depends heavily on which Pals the sanctuary generates.
Higher Pal spawn settings can give the game more chances to include Shadowbeak in each group, although they also fill the sanctuary with additional enemies. That can make the Pal easier to locate visually while making the actual capture considerably less tidy.
Does Shadowbeak Spawn During the Day or Night?
Shadowbeak can spawn during both the day and night in Palworld 1.0. You do not need to wait for darkness, and changing the time will not correct an empty spawn pool by itself.
Several players have reported seeing Shadowbeak more often during the day, but it is not a day-exclusive Pal. The difference is more likely the result of random sanctuary rotations rather than a hidden time requirement.
Daytime is generally more convenient because Shadowbeak’s dark body is easier to distinguish from the terrain and other Pals. Night searches still work, but visibility can make an already rare spawn easier to fly past.
If your current loop is empty, focus on cycling the active Pals rather than waiting beside the island until sunrise or sunset. The sanctuary population needs to change; the clock does not.
Where Shadowbeak Does Not Spawn in Palworld 1.0
Shadowbeak does not spawn inside the World Tree. That region became the new home of several high-level Pals in 1.0, but Shadowbeak remained tied to Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3.
It also does not belong to the blue lava sanctuary. That location is Wildlife Sanctuary No. 2, while Shadowbeak is found at the highest-level sanctuary near the northeastern desert.
The three most common search mistakes are:
| Mistake | Correction |
|---|---|
| Searching Wildlife Sanctuary No. 2 | Travel to Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3 near the desert |
| Searching the World Tree | Shadowbeak does not appear there |
| Checking one section of the island | Complete a full circuit and refresh the spawn pool |
World settings can also affect the search if Pal spawn locations were randomized when the world was created. The standard Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3 information assumes the world is using default spawn locations.
How to Prepare for Catching Shadowbeak
Shadowbeak is a Dark-type Pal with high defensive stats, so bring Dragon-type attacks and enough damage to lower its health without turning the final capture setup into a prolonged fight. Its base Defense is especially high, which can make an underprepared encounter take longer than expected.
Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3 rarely gives you the luxury of fighting one target in complete isolation. Move Shadowbeak away from nearby groups where possible, or clear the surrounding Pals before beginning the capture attempt. Extra enemies can damage Shadowbeak, interrupt sphere throws, or force you to retreat after spending a long time cycling for the spawn.
A Ring of Mercy is useful once Shadowbeak reaches low health because it prevents your attacks from reducing the Pal below one HP. Recall your active Pal before the final throws if its attacks could continue dealing damage after you have entered capture range.
Bring more high-tier spheres than one successful capture should theoretically require. Shadowbeak is rare enough that finding it and then running out of suitable spheres is a much more expensive mistake than carrying an excessive stack.
Its high HP and Defense also make status effects useful. Burning, Poison, or other capture-supporting effects can improve the final attempt, although damage-over-time effects need to be managed carefully when the Pal is already close to defeat.
Can You Breed Shadowbeak in Palworld 1.0?
The only direct Shadowbeak breeding combination in Palworld 1.0 is Shadowbeak with Shadowbeak. Older cross-species combinations should not be used for the current version.
This means breeding cannot provide your first guaranteed Shadowbeak. You must catch at least two opposite-gender copies before you can create a dependable breeding line.
Shadowbeak can also hatch from a Huge Dark Egg, but the egg pool contains several other Dark Pals, including Menasting, Necromus, Selyne, Lyleen Noct, Frostallion Noct, Bellanoir, Bellanoir Libero, Helzephyr Lux, and Xenolord. Finding a Huge Dark Egg therefore offers a chance at Shadowbeak rather than a targeted acquisition method.
Once you have a pair, breeding becomes much more reliable than continuing to hunt the sanctuary for every additional copy. You can use the offspring to pursue stronger passives and IVs while preserving the best wild catches as parents.
Is Shadowbeak Worth Finding?
Shadowbeak remains an excellent combat Pal in 1.0, combining 120 base HP and Attack with a base Defense of 140. That defensive stat is among its defining advantages, allowing it to remain active in difficult encounters while still delivering strong Dark damage.
Its usefulness is much narrower at a base because Gathering Level 2 is its only work suitability. Shadowbeak should be treated primarily as a combat and flying Pal rather than a worker expected to justify a permanent production slot.
Its flying performance is strong enough to remain useful, although it is not the fastest possible endgame mount. The larger reason to pursue it is the combination of mobility, durability, and combat value rather than using it solely as transportation.

The Fastest Way to Find Shadowbeak
Travel to Wildlife Sanctuary No. 3 on the far eastern side of the map, not the blue lava sanctuary or the World Tree. Use a flying mount to circle the entire island, checking both the cave side and the opposite platforms before clearing the active Pal groups.
Move away long enough for the sanctuary to refresh, then repeat the loop. Shadowbeak can appear during the day or night, so spend your time cycling the spawn pool rather than waiting for a particular hour.
Once you catch one, keep searching until you have an opposite-gender pair. The sanctuary remains the reliable route to your first Shadowbeaks, but breeding them together is considerably easier than asking the same island to cooperate every time you need another copy.
