Solarpunk: How To Make Bread
To make Bread in Solarpunk, craft Dough from Wheat at the Workbench, then place the Dough into the Furnace to bake it into Bread. Each Dough costs 3 Wheat, so making 10 Bread requires 30 Wheat total. Bread is important for TraderBot progression, so do not waste your early Wheat on Animal Feed before the Wheat and Bread trades are safe.

How To Make Bread In Solarpunk
To make Bread in Solarpunk, use 3 Wheat at the Workbench to make Dough, then put the Dough into the Furnace. The Furnace bakes the Dough into Bread, which is needed for TraderBot progression and should be saved before you start using Wheat heavily for Animal Feed.
The recipe is not complicated. The problem is Wheat. Wheat is not available on the starting island, and the first few Wheat nodes are not enough to comfortably cover every system that wants it.
| Step | What To Do | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Find and grow Wheat. | Unlocks the crop needed for Dough. |
| 2 | Craft Dough at the Workbench. | Uses 3 Wheat per Dough. |
| 3 | Place Dough in the Furnace. | Bakes Dough into Bread. |
Bread is one of those Solarpunk items where the crafting step is easy, but the resource planning matters. If you spend Wheat too early, the Bread trade can suddenly become a slow waiting game.
Get Wheat First
You need Wheat before you can make Bread. Wheat is found after upgrading your airship range and exploring the newly reachable islands, so you cannot make Bread from the starting island alone.
Once you find Wheat, bring back both Wheat and Wheat Seeds. Plant the seeds immediately and expand your Wheat supply before using it freely. Wheat is needed for Animal Basics, TraderBot trades, Dough, Bread, and Animal Feed, so the first small batch disappears fast.
If you have not found it yet, the Solarpunk Wheat guide explains where to find Wheat, how airship progression gates it, and why you should save the first crop carefully.
Make Dough At The Workbench
After you have Wheat, go to the Workbench and craft Dough. Each Dough requires 3 Wheat.
| Item | Recipe | Next Step |
|---|---|---|
| Dough | 3 Wheat | Put it into the Furnace to make Bread. |
This is the part to remember if the game asks you for 10 Bread. You are not really farming for 10 items. You are farming for 30 Wheat first, then turning that Wheat into Dough, then baking the Dough into Bread.
Use The Furnace To Bake Bread
Once you have Dough, place it into the Furnace to make Bread. The Workbench makes Dough, but the Furnace finishes the recipe.
If you do not have a Furnace yet, keep pushing early research and resource gathering. The Furnace is one of the key crafting stations because it also turns ores into bars and supports other major progression steps.
If you are still stuck before that point, the Solarpunk Iron guide can help with the early Iron bottleneck, while the Solarpunk Copper guide covers the later Copper farm used for airship and TraderBot progression.
How Much Wheat You Need For Bread
You need 3 Wheat for each Bread because 3 Wheat makes the Dough that becomes one Bread. If you need 10 Bread, save 30 Wheat before starting the full batch.
| Bread Goal | Wheat Needed | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Bread | 3 Wheat | One Dough craft. |
| 5 Bread | 15 Wheat | Five Dough crafts. |
| 10 Bread | 30 Wheat | Ten Dough crafts for the TraderBot trade. |
The 10 Bread trade is the big reason Bread deserves its own planning. If your Wheat farm is still tiny, making 10 Bread can take several growth cycles. That is normal, but it is much worse if you already spent half your Wheat on feed.
Do Not Waste Wheat Early
Do not turn all your early Wheat into Animal Feed right after unlocking Animal Basics. Wheat is a progression crop before it is a comfort crop, and Bread is one of the main reasons to save it.
A safe order is to cover the important Wheat gates first: 5 Wheat for Animal Basics, 10 Wheat for TraderBot, and 30 Wheat for the 10 Bread trade. After those are handled, Wheat becomes safer to spend on Animal Feed.
| Wheat Use | Amount | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Animal Basics | 5 Wheat | Needed to unlock the animal setup. |
| TraderBot Wheat trade | 10 Wheat | Needed before the Bread trade route continues. |
| 10 Bread | 30 Wheat | Needed because each Bread starts with 3 Wheat. |
| Animal Feed | Uses Wheat | Better after the Wheat and Bread gates are safe. |
This is the trap: chickens are useful, but feeding them too early can slow down the exact trades that help you progress. Get the Bread trade safe first, then build the animal farm with less stress.
Bread Tips
The best Bread tip in Solarpunk is to treat Wheat like a limited progression resource until your farm can replace it reliably. Bread is easy to craft once Wheat is stable, but painful if you are growing only a few pieces at a time.
| Tip | Why It Helps |
|---|---|
| Plant Wheat Seeds immediately | Starts the long-term Wheat supply. |
| Save 30 Wheat for 10 Bread | Prevents the Bread trade from stalling. |
| Do not feed chickens too early | Animal Feed can drain Wheat before Bread is done. |
| Use the Furnace after making Dough | Dough does not become Bread until it is baked. |
| Expand Wheat before scaling animals | More animals mean more feed pressure. |
If you cannot reach Wheat yet, the Solarpunk airship upgrade guide explains how to expand your travel range and reach the islands where Wheat starts appearing.
Final Blurb
Making Bread in Solarpunk is a two-step process: craft Dough from 3 Wheat at the Workbench, then bake the Dough in the Furnace. For 10 Bread, plan around 30 Wheat total.
The real challenge is not the recipe. It is saving the Wheat long enough to finish the trade. Get Wheat, plant the seeds, expand the crop, and do not burn it all on Animal Feed before the Bread gate is done.
