Halloween The Game How to Open the Map
The map in Halloween The Game is surprisingly easy to miss because the usual M key is not the answer on PC, and Story Mode handles map access differently from multiplayer. Even once you have it open, the map also does not necessarily reveal every escape location immediately, so there are really two separate things to understand: opening it and actually filling it with useful information.

Press Tab to Open the Map on PC
In Halloween The Game multiplayer on PC, press Tab to open the map. M is not the default map key, which is why this control is so easy to miss if you instinctively try the standard PC map button first.

I would try Tab before changing any keybinds or assuming the map is bugged. Players specifically looking for the map control have confirmed that Tab is the multiplayer input.
The important qualifier is multiplayer, because Story Mode does not give you access to the map immediately.
Story Mode Does Not Give You the Map Right Away
If you are playing the story and Tab appears to do nothing, you may simply be too early in the campaign.
Current player reports indicate that the map becomes available a few chapters into Story Mode rather than being usable from the beginning. That means testing the multiplayer Tab control during the opening chapters can make it look like you have the wrong key when the feature itself has not been unlocked yet.
I would keep progressing before troubleshooting anything if you are still near the beginning of the story.
This is one of the more important distinctions to make because “Tab does nothing” can mean two completely different things depending on the mode: either there is actually a control issue in multiplayer, or you simply do not have Story Mode map access yet.
Escape Locations Can Be Added to the Map as You Explore
Opening the map does not mean every possible escape route will already be marked.
Players report that some escape locations are discovered through exploration. One example is the Storm Cellar, which can appear on the map after you roam close enough to it.
That changes how I would use the map. Rather than treating it as a complete objective screen that immediately tells you where every exit is, think of it as something your team gradually fills in while moving through Haddonfield.
If you are searching for an escape and do not see anything useful marked yet, you may still need to physically explore more of the neighborhood.
Why an Escape May Be Missing From Your Map
An escape not appearing on your map does not necessarily mean that route is unavailable.
You may simply not have discovered it yet.
There are also perks capable of revealing an escape location automatically, which means two players can potentially have different amounts of useful escape information available depending on what has been discovered or revealed during the match.
That is a useful distinction when deciding where to search next. If your map has very little information, blindly staring at it will not solve the problem; exploring the parts of Haddonfield your team has not covered yet may actually be what causes useful locations to appear.
I would especially keep this in mind when coordinating with other Civilians. A map marker is useful once you have it, but reaching new areas is part of how you build that information in the first place.
What to Do If the Map Is Not Opening
If you cannot open the map, first check which mode you are playing.
In multiplayer on PC, press Tab rather than M.
If you are in Story Mode, make sure you have progressed far enough for map access to become available. Early in the story, the map being unavailable can be intentional rather than a broken keybind.
If you are definitely in multiplayer and Tab still does nothing, I would then check your current controls in case the default binding has been changed.
Once the map is working, remember that missing escape icons are a separate issue from opening the map itself. You may need to explore near an escape before it becomes visible rather than expecting every route to appear immediately.
