Is Gears of War E-Day Split Screen?
Gears of War has a long history with couch co-op, and E-Day keeps that tradition alive, although split-screen support is more limited than its online multiplayer. If you are trying to play locally with someone on the same console, the important distinction is which platform and mode you are using.

Does Gears of War: E-Day Have Split Screen?
Yes. Gears of War: E-Day supports two-player split-screen on Xbox Series X|S, but local split-screen is limited to the Campaign. Two players can sit on the same console, sign into separate accounts, and play through the story together on one screen.
Split-screen is not available on PC, and Horde Siege and Versus require online multiplayer rather than local split-screen.
Xbox Series X|S Campaign: Yes, 2-player split screen
Xbox Horde Siege: No local split screen
Xbox Versus: No local split screen
PC Campaign: No split screen
Maximum Local Players: 2
If your main question is whether the story itself can be played together, our Gears of War: E-Day Campaign co-op guide also covers the larger four-player online Campaign setup.
Which Gears of War: E-Day Modes Support Split Screen?
The Campaign is the mode to use if you want traditional couch co-op.
Two local players can share an Xbox Series X|S and play through the story together, with the remaining members of Bravo Squad controlled by the game when they are not occupied by other players.
Horde Siege and Versus work differently. Both are multiplayer modes, but they require separate online connections rather than letting two players join from the same console through split-screen.
This distinction is worth knowing before buying or setting up a second controller specifically for multiplayer. E-Day supports local co-op, but that does not mean every multiplayer mode supports local players.
How to Play Split Screen in Gears of War: E-Day
Starting split-screen Campaign co-op is simple once both players have a controller and account ready.
1. Launch Gears of War: E-Day on Xbox Series X|S.
2. Connect a second controller.
3. Sign the second player into their Xbox account.
4. Open Campaign from the main menu.
5. Have the second player join the Campaign session.
6. Split screen should activate once both players are in the Campaign.
The second player needs to be signed into an account rather than simply connecting another controller. Once that account is active, E-Day can detect the second player and add them to the local Campaign session.
If either player is having trouble with E-Day's aiming or movement, our best Gears of War: E-Day controller settings cover sensitivity, dead zones, control schemes, and other useful adjustments.
Does Gears of War: E-Day Have Split Screen on PC?
No. Split-screen is only available on Xbox Series X|S.
PC players can still play the Campaign cooperatively, but each player needs their own system and online connection. You cannot connect two controllers to one PC and use the same display for local Campaign co-op.
This applies whether you are playing through the Xbox app or Steam. The local two-player option is a console feature.
Split Screen vs. Online Co-Op in Gears of War: E-Day
E-Day supports more players online than it does locally.
Split-screen Campaign is limited to two players on one Xbox, while online Campaign co-op supports as many as four players. That means a full Bravo Squad requires online multiplayer rather than four people sharing one console.
Split-Screen Campaign: 2 players on one Xbox
Online Campaign: Up to 4 players
Local PC Co-Op: Not supported
Horde Siege: Online multiplayer
Versus: Online multiplayer
So if you are buying E-Day specifically for couch co-op, the answer is yes: you can play the Campaign with another person on the same Xbox Series X|S. Just do not expect the same local split-screen option to carry over into Horde Siege or Versus.
