The best PS5 controller settings in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 should give you enough speed to handle close-range fights without making precise aiming difficult. The DualSense controller also introduces a few considerations that Xbox players don't have, particularly adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and optional motion controls. Whether you're using the standard DualSense or a DualSense Edge, the following setup prioritizes reliable aiming, responsive inputs, and movement controls that won't interfere with your gunfights.

Best PS5 Controller Settings in MW4
For MW4 on PS5, we recommend starting with 1.60 horizontal sensitivity, 1.45 vertical sensitivity, a 0.90 ADS multiplier, and the Standard aim response curve. This setup provides relatively quick horizontal movement while keeping smaller aiming corrections manageable, particularly when tracking enemies through an optic.
We also recommend turning off adaptive trigger effects and controller vibration for Multiplayer. Neither setting needs to be disabled to play well, but removing the additional resistance and feedback gives your inputs a more consistent physical feel during repeated gunfights.
- Button Layout: Tactical
- Stick Layout: Default
- Horizontal Stick Sensitivity: 1.60
- Vertical Stick Sensitivity: 1.45
- Low-Zoom ADS Multiplier: 0.90
- ADS Transition Timing: Instant
- Aim Response Curve: Standard
- Target Aim Assist: On
- Controller Vibration: Off
- Trigger Effect: Off
- Motion Sensor Aiming: Off
- Left Stick Minimum Deadzone: 5, adjust for drift
- Right Stick Minimum Deadzone: 4, adjust for drift
- Left Stick Maximum Deadzone: 90
- Right Stick Maximum Deadzone: 99
- L2 / R2 Deadzones: 3
- Aim Down Sight Behavior: Hold
- Sprint Assist: Off
- Mantle Assist: Off
- Corner Slice: Off
- Slide/Dive Behavior: Tap to Slide / Hold to Dive
- Slide Maintains Sprint: On
- Automatic Airborne Mantle: Off
These values are a recommended starting configuration rather than a universal competitive preset. The most useful adjustments will depend on how your particular DualSense handles small stick movements and whether you prefer faster turning or more deliberate aim control.
Best MW4 PS5 Sensitivity and Aim Settings
Horizontal sensitivity has a greater influence on how comfortably you can follow opponents moving across your screen, while vertical sensitivity becomes particularly noticeable when adjusting for recoil or tracking enemies above and below your position. Keeping horizontal sensitivity at 1.60 and vertical at 1.45 gives you a little more turning speed without making upward and downward movements equally aggressive.
The 0.90 ADS multiplier is intended to preserve much of that responsiveness when aiming down sights. It's a reasonable middle ground for players who find a full 1.00 multiplier difficult to control but don't want their aim to slow dramatically whenever they raise their weapon.
If you're struggling to stay on distant targets, try lowering the ADS multiplier to 0.85 before changing your horizontal or vertical sensitivity. Conversely, if you can aim accurately but consistently fall behind opponents moving across your sights, increasing it toward 1.00 may help.
For the aim response curve, Standard is our preferred starting option on PS5. It offers a familiar, predictable response to thumbstick movement, making it a good foundation for learning how your sensitivity behaves. Dynamic is a worthwhile alternative for players who prefer its different stick response, particularly if they've already spent considerable time using it in previous Call of Duty games.
Avoid changing your response curve and sensitivity simultaneously. If aiming feels better after making several adjustments, you won't know which change was responsible.
Target Aim Assist should remain enabled for conventional controller aiming. We also recommend Instant ADS transition timing, which applies your ADS sensitivity immediately rather than gradually blending into it during the aiming animation.
Best DualSense Deadzone and Trigger Settings in MW4
The standard PS5 DualSense uses analog sticks that can develop drift, so your minimum deadzones should be based on how your controller behaves rather than how low someone else's settings are. A lower value registers smaller movements, but it can also allow unwanted inputs to move your camera or character.
Start with a minimum deadzone of 4 on the right stick and 5 on the left. Open the in-game stick deadzone test, leave both sticks untouched, and check whether either one registers movement. If the right stick reports unwanted input at 4, raise its minimum until the camera remains stationary.
We recommend setting the left stick maximum to 90 and the right stick maximum to 99. The slightly reduced left maximum lets you reach full movement input with less stick travel, while the right stick retains a wider physical range for aiming adjustments.
For L2 and R2, try a deadzone of 3. This reduces how far the triggers must move before the game recognizes an input, although you should increase the value if you accidentally aim or fire while resting your fingers on them.
The DualSense's adaptive triggers deserve separate attention. They can introduce physical resistance when aiming or firing, which adds immersion but may feel less comfortable during rapid engagements. With Trigger Effect disabled, L2 and R2 retain a more consistent press throughout combat.
If you primarily play MW4's campaign and enjoy the additional physical feedback, you can turn adaptive triggers and vibration back on without changing any of your aiming sensitivity settings.
Motion Sensor Aiming should remain disabled for players who aim exclusively with the right stick. If you deliberately use gyro controls, however, keep them enabled and configure your aiming around that input method instead.
Best MW4 PS5 Movement and Button Layout
Tactical is our preferred layout for the standard PS5 DualSense because it moves crouching and sliding to R3. This lets you perform those actions without taking your right thumb away from the aiming stick, making it particularly useful when fighting at close range.
The trade-off is that melee moves to Circle. Players who regularly use melee attacks may prefer the Default layout, but Tactical offers a practical advantage for anyone who slides or crouches frequently during gunfights.
We recommend leaving Sprint Assist and Mantle Assist off so you maintain direct control over both actions. Automatic Airborne Mantle should also remain disabled if you find yourself accidentally climbing obstacles while jumping near cover.
Tap to Slide / Hold to Dive provides access to both movement actions without requiring separate buttons. If you rarely dive and find yourself triggering it accidentally, Slide Only is a reasonable alternative. Keeping Slide Maintains Sprint enabled also helps you preserve your movement flow after sliding.
Corner Slice can remain disabled. It changes your weapon's presentation when aiming around certain corners, but it doesn't reduce your hitbox or provide additional protection from incoming fire.
For DualSense Edge owners, the rear buttons offer a different approach. You can keep the Default button layout and assign Cross and Circle to the two back buttons, allowing you to jump, crouch, and slide while keeping your thumbs on the sticks.
The DualSense Edge also has adjustable trigger stops, which can shorten the physical travel of L2 and R2. If you use the shorter trigger positions, test them alongside your in-game trigger deadzones to make sure both aiming and firing activate comfortably.
Players using the standard DualSense don't need to buy another controller to benefit from these recommendations. Tactical provides access to the most useful movement actions without rear buttons, while proper deadzone calibration and a comfortable sensitivity remain valuable regardless of hardware.
