MW4 How to Get Double XP

There are several ways to get Double XP in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (MW4), and some of the best options are completely free. Players can earn XP boosts by completing specific Campaign missions, finishing Boot Camp challenges, or claiming limited-time launch rewards. Existing Double XP tokens from previous Call of Duty games can also be used in MW4, giving returning players another way to level up faster.

How to Get Double XP in MW4

The best way to get Double XP depends on how much progress you've already made. If you're just starting, Boot Camp offers two short XP boosts without requiring Campaign completion. Players further into the story can claim additional rewards, while a launch promotion provides another opportunity to earn bonus XP for a limited time.

Free Double XP Methods in MW4:
  • Boot Camp: Complete the Lethal Operator and Kill Block challenges for two 30-minute Double XP tokens.
  • Campaign: Finish Following Orders, Survivors, and Decapitation to unlock three Double XP tokens.
  • Launch Promotion: Participate in the official Call of Duty 2XP social promotion before October 26, 2026.
  • Existing Tokens: Use unused Double XP tokens carried over from supported previous Call of Duty games.

Get Double XP From Boot Camp

The Boot Camp event is one of the quickest ways to collect free Double XP during MW4's launch period. It runs until November 6, 2026, and two of its challenges specifically reward regular Double XP tokens.

The first, Lethal Operator, requires you to eliminate 20 enemies in DMZ. Completing it awards a 30-minute Double XP token. The second challenge, Kill Block, requires 10 Operator headshot kills in the Kill Block Multiplayer mode and rewards another 30-minute token.

You don't need to complete the entire Boot Camp event to receive these individual rewards. There are also two Double Weapon XP tokens available through separate challenges, but those increase weapon progression rather than your overall player rank.

I'd start with Lethal Operator if you're already spending time in DMZ. Its enemy-kill requirement fits naturally into regular deployments, so you can work toward the reward without changing how you normally play.

Get Double XP From Campaign Missions

MW4 also awards Double XP tokens at three specific points in the Campaign. Your first comes after Following Orders, the third mission, making it possible to earn a token relatively early in the story.

The complete list of regular Double XP mission rewards is:

  • Following Orders (Mission 3): Double XP Token
  • Survivors (Mission 9): Double XP Token
  • Decapitation (Mission 15): Double XP Token

These rewards are tied to individual mission completions, so you don't need to finish all 16 missions to receive your first boost. The tokens become available for use in Multiplayer and DMZ.

If you're specifically trying to level weapons, Defection (Mission 11) and Escape (Mission 13) award Double Weapon XP instead. These are separate from the three regular Double XP rewards.

Claim the MW4 Launch Double XP Promotion

There's also a limited-time 2XP promotion running through October 26, 2026, at 10 AM Pacific. To participate, find the official MW4 launch promotion from @CallofDuty on X and post or reply with your Activision ID, tag @CallofDuty, and include the phrase "MW4 2XP".

This offer is only available during the launch window, so it's worth checking before spending time earning additional tokens. Be sure to follow the promotion's instructions and eligibility requirements.

Other Ways to Get Double XP in MW4

Use Double XP Tokens From Older Call of Duty Games

If you've played recent Call of Duty titles, check your existing token inventory before collecting new rewards. MW4 supports previously earned Double XP tokens, including those from games such as Black Ops 7 and Warzone, when they're associated with your Activision account.

This is particularly useful for returning players who saved tokens instead of using them immediately. You don't have to earn a completely new collection of boosts just because you've switched to MW4.

Get Double XP Through Promotions

The Monster Energy promotion provides another source of Double XP. Eligible promotional codes award 15-minute XP boosts, while qualifying code submissions during the October 23–25 launch weekend can unlock an additional token.

These offers require eligible purchases and have redemption limits, so they're better treated as an extra bonus rather than the main way to collect Double XP.

Players who preordered a digital edition through the Xbox Store may also qualify for a Dual 2XP Pack containing one hour of regular Double XP and one hour of Double Weapon XP. This is a preorder benefit rather than a reward automatically included with every copy of MW4.

How to Activate Double XP in MW4

Once you've collected a Double XP token, you can activate it directly from the Multiplayer lobby or DMZ menu. Your available boosts are separated into Rank XP and Weapon XP categories, with different durations depending on the tokens you own.

Activate Double XP in MW4:
  • Open the Multiplayer lobby or access the left-hand menu at the DMZ Forward Operating Base.
  • Press and hold R3 on controller, or select the XP token indicator with your mouse.
  • Choose the Rank XP category for regular Double XP.
  • Select an available token and its duration.
  • Confirm your choice and enter a match to use the boost.

One important change in MW4 is that Double XP tokens now use match time rather than continuously counting down. If you activate a 30-minute token and play a 10-minute match, you'll still have approximately 20 minutes available afterward. Time spent matchmaking, adjusting loadouts, or waiting in the lobby doesn't reduce the remaining duration.

This makes shorter tokens more practical than in previous Call of Duty games. There's no need to rush through menus or immediately start another match just to avoid wasting your boost.

If a promotional token doesn't appear after redemption, check that you're signed into the correct Activision account and restart the game. Some promotional rewards can also take time to process before they appear in your inventory.

For anyone looking to get Double XP without spending extra money, our recommendation is to collect the Boot Camp rewards before November 6 and pick up the Campaign tokens as you progress. That gives you five XP-related Campaign rewards and four Boot Camp rewards in total, including both regular and Weapon XP boosts, without relying on paid promotions.
