Shared Camos in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 let you customize multiple weapons without completing the same camo challenges for every gun. Unlike Military Camos, which must be earned separately for each weapon, Shared Camos become available across your entire arsenal once unlocked. Getting them requires leveling specific weapons and completing their Special Camo challenges, with progression available in both Multiplayer and DMZ.

How to Unlock Shared Camos in MW4
To unlock Shared Camos in MW4, you need to complete Special Camo challenges for individual weapons. Every weapon has three unique Special Camos, and completing one of these challenges adds that camo to your shared collection, allowing you to equip it on other weapons without earning it again.
Open Create a Class, select a weapon, and navigate to its Camo selection menu. From there, you can inspect the available Special Camos and their unlock requirements.
Each Special Camo challenge becomes available at a particular Weapon Level. Once your weapon reaches that level, complete the associated combat objective to unlock the camo. These challenges can involve headshots, mounted kills, double kills, or other weapon-specific requirements.
You don't need to complete all eight Military Camos or unlock Gold before earning Shared Camos. Special Camos have their own Weapon Level requirements, so you can start collecting them while progressing through a weapon's regular leveling track.
Shared Camo Challenge Examples in MW4
Shared Camo requirements depend on the weapon you're using. For example, the Sang 9mm Pistol unlocks its Autumn Special Camo challenge at Weapon Level 13, requiring 25 aiming-down-sights kills in Multiplayer or 75 enemy kills while aiming down sights in DMZ.
The HAN 86 Assault Rifle has a different challenge for its Smoke camo, which becomes available at Weapon Level 25. You'll need 20 mounted kills in Multiplayer or 75 mounted kills in DMZ.
Completing either challenge adds its respective camo to your shared collection. You can then use Autumn or Smoke on weapons other than the one originally required to unlock it.
Multiplayer and DMZ share camo progression, but the challenge requirements adjust depending on which mode you're playing. DMZ generally requires more eliminations because AI enemies count toward the objectives. Warzone also supports shared camo progression beginning with its MW4 integration in Season 1.
How to Use Shared Camos on Other Weapons in MW4
Once you've unlocked a Special Camo, you can equip it on another weapon through Create a Class. Select the weapon you want to customize, open its Camo selection menu, and choose the unlocked camo from your available collection.
You won't need to reach the same Weapon Level or repeat the original challenge on that second gun. The camo stays unlocked across your weapons and supported game modes.
This doesn't apply to every camo category. Military Camos are earned through Weapon Level milestones separately for each gun, while Completionist Camos such as Gold, Platinum, Harmonic Break, and Divergence have additional progression requirements. The universally reusable unlocks are the Special Camos.
How to Unlock More Shared Camos in MW4
If you're mainly interested in expanding your camo collection, focus on unlocking Special Camos across several weapons rather than finishing every Completionist challenge on a single gun.
Each weapon contributes three unique Special Camos, so switching to another weapon gives you access to a different set of designs. You can also prioritize challenges with lower Weapon Level requirements before committing to the longer grind needed for higher-level unlocks.
For instance, the Sang 9mm's Autumn challenge becomes available at Weapon Level 13, considerably earlier in its progression than the HAN 86's final Special Camo challenge at Level 72. If your priority is collecting additional designs rather than completing a particular weapon, checking these unlock thresholds can help you decide what to level next.
You can work toward these camos in either Multiplayer or DMZ, depending on which mode better suits the challenge. The finished Special Camos enter the same shared collection regardless of where you earned them, giving you more customization options as you continue leveling the rest of your arsenal.
