Permafrost launched into Early Access on PC on October 9, 2026, with the survival game available through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store. What Platforms Is Permafrost On?
Permafrost is currently playable on Windows PC. You can buy the Early Access version through Steam, GOG, or the Epic Games Store.
The PS5 version is official as well, but it is still listed as announced with its release date to be determined. That means PC is currently the only platform where you can actually jump into Permafrost.
PC: Available now in Early Access
PlayStation 5: Announced, release date TBD
Xbox Series X|S: Not currently confirmed
PlayStation 4: Not currently confirmed
Nintendo Switch: Not currently confirmed
Mac: No native version currently listed
Linux: No native version currently listed
Permafrost Is Available on Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store
The PC version entered Early Access on October 9, 2026, and all three of the announced PC storefronts received the game: Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
They are the same underlying Windows version rather than three different editions of Permafrost, so your choice mostly comes down to which storefront you prefer.
GOG is worth separating from the other two because its version is DRM-free, meaning the store lists it as not requiring activation or a persistent online connection for solo play. Steam has the usual Steam ecosystem features such as achievements and Family Sharing, while Epic is another official Windows option.
The listed PC requirements currently start with Windows 10 64-bit, so buying Permafrost on PC does not mean there is also a native Mac or Linux build.
Is Permafrost Coming to PS5?
Yes. Permafrost has an official PlayStation 5 store page, so the PS5 version is confirmed rather than simply something the developers have said they would like to make eventually.
The important catch is that the PlayStation version does not have a release date yet. The PlayStation Store currently lists it as announced with the release date still to be determined.
The PS5 listing also confirms that the console version is planned to retain Permafrost's multiplayer setup, with support for up to four online players. Online multiplayer will require PlayStation Plus, while solo play remains available without it.
PS5 version: Confirmed
Release date: To be determined
Solo play: Supported
Online co-op: Up to 4 players
PS Plus: Required for online multiplayer
Other PS5 features: Remote Play and DualSense vibration support listed
So if you are waiting specifically for Permafrost on PlayStation, you do not need to wonder whether a port exists. The unanswered question is when it will actually release.
Is Permafrost Coming to Xbox?
There is currently no confirmed Xbox Series X|S version of Permafrost.
That is worth distinguishing from the PS5 situation. PlayStation already has an official store listing, while Xbox does not currently have the same confirmed release status from the developer or publisher.
That does not necessarily mean an Xbox port will never happen. Permafrost is still in Early Access on PC, and console plans can expand as development continues. For now, however, I would not treat Xbox Series X|S as an announced platform until SpaceRocket Games or Toplitz Productions confirms it.
What About Switch, PS4, Mac, and Linux?
None of those platforms currently have confirmed native versions.
The PC storefronts list Windows as the supported operating system, so there is no native macOS or Linux release at the moment. Likewise, there is no announced Nintendo Switch or PlayStation 4 version.
The PS5 listing also makes it fairly clear that PlayStation development is focused on the current-generation console rather than PS4.
Will More Platforms Be Added After Early Access?
Possibly, but the current rollout suggests that PC is where active Early Access development is happening first, with PS5 already positioned as the next confirmed platform.
That matters because Permafrost is still being built out during Early Access. A console release has to account for later changes to quests, survival systems, balancing, performance, and co-op rather than simply porting one finished PC build.
Until the publisher announces additional versions, the safest platform breakdown is simple: play now on Windows PC, wait for the confirmed PS5 release, and treat Xbox, Switch, PS4, Mac, and Linux as unannounced.
