Planet Zoo 2 How to Rotate Camera

Rotating the camera in Planet Zoo 2 is separate from simply moving it around the map, and the controls differ between mouse and controller. Once you know the input, you can freely change the viewing angle, tilt above habitats, and reposition the camera while building without changing the objects themselves.

How to Rotate the Camera in Planet Zoo 2

On PC, hold the right mouse button and move your mouse to rotate and tilt the camera in Planet Zoo 2. On PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, move the right analog stick to pitch and rotate the camera.

You can keep the rotation input held while changing your viewing angle, which is useful when looking across a habitat, checking construction from above, or lining the camera up with paths and scenery.

PS5: Move the right stick.
Xbox Series X|S: Move the right stick.

Planet Zoo 2 Camera Controls on PC

Camera rotation is only one part of the PC camera setup. WASD moves the camera horizontally around the zoo, while Q and E adjust its vertical position. The mouse wheel controls zoom.

  • Right-click + mouse → Rotate and tilt camera.
  • WASD → Move the camera.
  • Q / E → Move the camera vertically.
  • Mouse wheel → Zoom in or out.
  • Shift → Increase camera movement speed.
  • Arrow keys → Pan the camera.
  • F → Focus the camera on the selected object.
  • Home → Recenter the camera on the zoo.

You do not need to switch into a different camera mode just to rotate the view. Holding right-click while moving the mouse handles normal camera rotation during regular play.

How to Rotate the Camera on PS5 and Xbox

Planet Zoo 2 uses the right analog stick for camera rotation when playing with a controller. Moving the stick changes both the horizontal viewing direction and the camera pitch.

The left stick handles camera movement separately, while the triggers control zoom. On Xbox, the official control layout lists Left Trigger for zooming out and Right Trigger for zooming in, with the Right Stick assigned to camera pitch and rotation.

This separation is useful while building because you can move with the left stick and adjust your viewing angle with the right stick without having to change tools.

Rotating the Camera vs Moving the Camera

If the camera is going in the wrong direction, make sure you are using the correct type of movement. Rotating changes which direction the camera is facing, while normal camera movement changes its position within the zoo.

For example, pressing W moves the PC camera forward without changing where it is looking. Holding right-click and moving the mouse instead turns or tilts the view while keeping camera movement under separate controls.

Q and E are also positional controls rather than rotation controls. They move the camera vertically, which is useful when you want a higher or lower viewpoint without changing the angle you are facing.

Planet Zoo 2 Camera Modes Explained

Planet Zoo 2 also includes several dedicated camera modes, although you do not need them for basic rotation. Standard mode rotates the camera around a fixed point in front of it, while Freelook rotates the camera around itself.

Explore mode keeps the camera at a fixed height for slower navigation, Scenic mode creates views around a chosen location, and Cinematic mode provides tools for building custom camera paths.

If normal rotation feels different from what you want, switching between Standard and Freelook can therefore change the way the camera behaves even though both allow you to look around the zoo.

How to Rotate Objects Instead of the Camera

If you are trying to rotate a building piece, scenery object, or another placeable item rather than your viewpoint, that uses a different control.

On PC, press Z to rotate a selected object by 90 degrees. You can also hold Z and move the mouse for free rotation instead of rotating in fixed increments.

This is separate from holding right-click, which rotates the camera itself. If an object is turning when you meant to change your view, release the placement rotation control and use the camera input instead.

Can You Change the Camera Controls?

Yes. Planet Zoo 2 allows keyboard and mouse controls to be remapped through the Controls menu. If right-click or any of the movement keys do not behave as expected, check your current bindings in Options and compare them with the defaults.

You can also open the game's contextual controls panel with F1 on PC, which is useful when you want to check the available inputs without leaving your current zoo.
