Risk of Rain 2 How to Unlock Acolyte
Acolyte is one of the new survivors added to Risk of Rain 2 with the Hallowed Concepts expansion, but adding her to your survivor roster requires more than simply reaching the new content. Her unlock is tied to a specific challenge, boss encounter, and an item requirement that matters once the fight is over.

How to Unlock Acolyte in Risk of Rain 2
To unlock Acolyte in Risk of Rain 2, complete the A Broken Ritual challenge in Soulbound Threshold. You need to defeat both phases of the Anima Harvester, then interact with the Exhausted Acolyte that appears after the battle and give her a permanent item with either the Healing or Food-related tag.
Once the item is accepted, A Broken Ritual is completed and Acolyte is permanently unlocked as a playable survivor. The challenge also awards three Lunar Coins.
Reach Soulbound Threshold.
Defeat both phases of the Anima Harvester.
Have at least one permanent Healing or Food-related item.
Find the Exhausted Acolyte after the fight.
Interact with her and give her an eligible item.
Complete A Broken Ritual and unlock Acolyte.
Complete the A Broken Ritual Challenge
Acolyte's unlock is tied directly to A Broken Ritual, one of the challenges introduced with Hallowed Concepts. The objective is to revive the survivor in Soulbound Threshold after defeating the Anima Harvester.
The boss fight has two phases, and both need to be completed before the Exhausted Acolyte appears. Do not enter the encounter without an eligible item if your goal is specifically to unlock the survivor, because defeating the boss alone is not enough to finish the challenge.
Which Items Can You Give Acolyte?
You need at least one permanent item carrying either the Healing or Food-related tag. The rarity does not matter, so there is no reason to sacrifice an expensive item if you already have a common one that qualifies.
Some easy examples include Bison Steak, Bustling Fungus, Cautious Slug, Energy Drink, Medkit, Monster Tooth, Power Elixir, and Topaz Brooch. Uncommon, Legendary, Boss, Lunar, Void, Meal, Hallowed, and certain other tagged items can also qualify.
The important distinction is that the item has to come from your permanent stacks. Temporary or Ethereal copies do not count, nor do equipment items or items that cannot currently be removed from your inventory.
Easy Items to Bring
Medkit
Bustling Fungus
Cautious Slug
Bison Steak
Monster Tooth
Topaz Brooch
Energy Drink
You only need one qualifying item for the unlock, so keeping something inexpensive such as a Medkit available is the easiest way to make sure you can finish the challenge after the boss.
Revive the Exhausted Acolyte After the Boss
After both phases of the Anima Harvester are defeated, the Exhausted Acolyte appears in Soulbound Threshold. Approach her and interact to open the item-giving menu.
Select one of your eligible Healing or Food-related items and give it to her. That interaction is the actual completion trigger for A Broken Ritual, so do not leave the area immediately after killing the boss.
If the interaction is available but you cannot select an item, check that the item you are carrying is a permanent copy and actually has one of the required tags. Having general healing effects does not necessarily mean every item will qualify for the challenge.
Does Acolyte Unlock for Everyone in Multiplayer?
Yes. When A Broken Ritual is completed in multiplayer, Acolyte is unlocked for all players in the lobby who own the Hallowed Concepts expansion.
That means only one player needs to complete the final item-giving interaction for the unlock to apply across the eligible group. Players who do not own Hallowed Concepts will not receive access to Acolyte from the challenge.
Do You Need Hallowed Concepts to Unlock Acolyte?
Yes. Acolyte is a Hallowed Concepts survivor, and the A Broken Ritual challenge is part of that expansion's content. Owning the expansion is therefore required to unlock and play her.
Once unlocked, Acolyte becomes available from the survivor selection screen like the rest of the playable roster. Her kit centers on aggressive close-range combat, soul-based abilities, and building Convictions to invoke her Litany transformation.
