AION 2 Character Creation Restricted Fix 2026
The Character Creation Restricted message in AION 2 can stop you before you have even entered the game, and it is especially frustrating when the character you want to create is supposed to join friends already playing on that server. There are two different problems that can lead players here, however: the server itself may be closed to new characters, or your client may be incorrectly preventing character creation. Figuring out which one you have should be your first step.

How to Fix Character Creation Restricted in AION 2
If AION 2 says character creation is restricted on one particular server, there usually is not anything wrong with your game. That server is currently closed to new characters, so your immediate options are to wait for character creation to reopen or choose another available server.
Before changing anything on your PC, go back to the server list and check whether other servers allow you to create a character. If they do, you have confirmed that this is a server restriction rather than a problem with your installation, Steam account, internet connection, or Windows settings.
Only one or several servers are restricted: The server is the problem. Wait for it to reopen or create elsewhere.
Every available server is restricted: Treat it as a possible client, account, or connection issue and begin troubleshooting.
This distinction matters because changing DNS servers or Windows settings will not force an intentionally locked AION 2 server to accept another character.
Why Is Character Creation Restricted in AION 2?
AION 2 can temporarily stop new characters from being created on heavily populated servers. These restrictions help prevent individual servers from becoming overcrowded during periods of heavy demand, particularly around launch when large numbers of players are choosing servers at the same time.
A server showing normal availability later does not necessarily mean character creation will immediately reopen. The restriction concerns new characters rather than simply whether the server is currently capable of letting existing players log in, so the two statuses should not be treated as the same thing.
Faction balance can also matter because AION 2 separates Elyos and Asmodians through its server structure. If you have not chosen your side yet, our AION 2 faction differences guide covers what actually changes between Elyos and Asmodians before you commit.
What If Your Friends Are on a Restricted Server?
This is where the restriction matters most. If your friends have already created characters on a server that is now closed to character creation, you cannot simply bypass the restriction and create another character there because you know someone on the server.
You have three practical choices: wait for character creation to reopen, begin on another available server and move later if an appropriate server-transfer option becomes available, or have the group start together somewhere that currently accepts everyone.
If you have barely started playing, coordinating a server before everyone invests significant time can save considerably more trouble later. AION 2 does offer cross-server functionality for supported multiplayer activities, but that does not make your home server irrelevant or guarantee that friends on separate servers can share every part of the normal open-world experience.
For the actual group and friend systems, see our AION 2 How to Play With Friends guide.
When Does AION 2 Remove Character Creation Restrictions?
There is no fixed amount of time you need to wait. Character creation availability can change as server populations settle and capacity is adjusted, so a server that is restricted now can become available again later.
That also means repeatedly reinstalling the game is unlikely to accomplish anything when only your preferred server is locked. Check the server again periodically instead. Availability can change, and a server reopening is the point at which you will actually be able to create the character.
If you are trying to join friends, avoid creating a character somewhere else under the assumption that you will definitely be able to move it immediately. Server transfers are a separate system with their own availability and restrictions, so treat a temporary character on another server as exactly that until you know a transfer is available for the servers involved.
What to Do If Character Creation Is Restricted on Every Server
If other players can create characters and every server appears restricted specifically for you, then it is worth treating the problem differently. Start by completely closing AION 2 and restarting Steam, then launch the game again and recheck the server list.
If that does not work, open Windows Date & Time settings and make sure both your time and time zone are being set automatically. Incorrect system time can interfere with AION 2's account and regional checks, and correcting those settings may allow character creation to work normally after restarting the game.
If the problem continues across every server, you can also check your network configuration. Your IPv4 connection should normally be configured to obtain an IP address automatically. Changing DNS can sometimes resolve connection or routing problems, but I would leave that as a secondary troubleshooting step rather than changing network settings immediately.
Try these in order:
1. Check whether the restriction affects one server or every server.
2. Restart AION 2 and Steam.
3. Enable automatic Windows time and time zone settings.
4. Restart your connection and confirm IPv4 obtains an IP automatically.
5. Only investigate DNS or account-specific problems if every server remains unavailable.
The key is not to troubleshoot a server restriction as though it were a PC error. If another AION 2 server lets you reach character creation normally, your setup is working and the restricted server simply needs to reopen before you can create a character there.
