AION 2 How to Get Refining Stones
Refining Stones are crafting materials used to make equipment in AION 2, with higher-rarity gear requiring higher-rarity stones. They can drop from several activities, but some methods are far more efficient than simply killing random enemies and hoping for a drop.

How to Get Refining Stones in AION 2
The best sources of Refining Stones are Shugo Festival, Dimensional Invasions, Expeditions, and Sanctuary dungeons. Regular enemies and Field Bosses can also drop them, while the Market lets you buy the exact rarity you need from other players.
Best Refining Stone sources:
1. Shugo Festival
2. Dimensional Invasions
3. Expeditions
4. Sanctuary dungeons
5. Market
6. Regular enemies
7. Field Bosses
If your goal is specifically to stockpile Refining Stones, prioritize the first four methods rather than choosing an open-world zone and grinding mobs indefinitely.
Best Way to Get Refining Stones
Shugo Festival and Dimensional Invasions are the best opportunities when they are available. Shugo Festival directly rewards Refining Stones, while Dimensional Invasions can provide them through the Monster Cubes awarded after the activity.
Outside of those limited activities, Expeditions and Sanctuary dungeons are the better repeatable options. Both provide Refining Stones while also advancing other parts of your character, which makes them more efficient than farming ordinary enemies solely for stone drops.
If Shugo Festival or an Invasion is active: Do that first.
If neither is available: Run Expeditions and Sanctuaries.
If you only need a few stones: Check the Market before spending time farming.
This is also the key difference between a good Refining Stone farm and simply finding somewhere stones can technically drop. An activity that gives stones alongside useful dungeon rewards is generally a better use of your time than killing open-world mobs for a low-chance material drop.
Can Regular Enemies Drop Refining Stones?
Yes. Regular enemies throughout AION 2 can drop Refining Stones, which is why you may see long lists of zones advertised as Refining Stone farming locations.
You do not need to travel to one specific map for this, however. Refining Stones can appear from enemies across many different regions, so those large location lists are better understood as examples of places where drops have been seen rather than exclusive farming spots.
If you are already completing quests, Exploration objectives, or another activity in an area, killing enemies along the way can add extra stones to your inventory. I would not make random monster grinding your primary Refining Stone strategy unless you also need something else from those enemies.
Field Bosses can drop Refining Stones as well, but they are even less attractive as a dedicated farm because of the time required to locate, wait for, and defeat them.
Should You Buy Refining Stones From the Market?
The Market is worth checking when you are only missing a small number of stones for a craft. Refining Stones exist in Common, Rare, Epic, and Unique rarities, so you can buy the specific tier required instead of continuing to farm and hoping the correct one drops.
This is especially useful when your bottleneck is only one material. Before committing another dungeon run purely for Refining Stones, compare the Market price against the amount of Kina you are willing to spend.
I would avoid automatically buying large quantities without checking prices, since player listings can vary considerably. Use the Market as a shortcut for a specific shortage rather than treating it as the default source for every craft.
What Are Refining Stones Used For in AION 2?
Refining Stones are used as materials when crafting gear. The rarity of the stone scales with the rarity of the equipment being crafted, so stronger recipes eventually require higher-tier Refining Stones.
Because better equipment contributes directly to your character's overall strength, Refining Stones eventually feed into several larger gearing goals. If you are trying to decide which upgrades are worth prioritizing, our AION 2 How to Increase Combat Power guide breaks down the most important character upgrades in order.
The main takeaway is that you should not overcomplicate Refining Stone farming. Take advantage of Shugo Festival and Dimensional Invasions when they appear, use Expeditions and Sanctuaries for consistent farming, and let open-world enemy drops supplement those activities rather than becoming your entire farm.
