Graveyard Keeper 2 Study Table: Science & Tech Points Guide

The Study Table becomes one of the most useful workstations in Graveyard Keeper 2 once technologies start asking for large amounts of colored Tech Points. Its real strength isn't simply giving you research rewards; it's letting you deliberately turn crafted Science into the exact Red, Green, or Blue points you're currently missing while also revealing the runes needed for Alchemy.

What If You Destroyed the Study Table?

The Study Table Is in the Alchemy Lab Beneath the Left-Side Tower

The Study Table is already built inside the Alchemy Lab underneath the locked tower on the left side of your base. It is not in the Church basement, despite an in-game technology description pointing you there.

You reach the real table through Albert's Plague Doctor questline. The tower requires both the Inquisitor's Medallion you've carried since the opening of the game and the Secret Combination Albert knows.

Study Table Location
• Go to the tower on the left side of your base
• Continue Albert's Plague Doctor quests
• Use the Inquisitor's Medallion and Secret Combination
• Enter the tower and head down into the Alchemy Lab
• The Study Table is already waiting inside

The same room also introduces you to the Laboratory and early Alchemy work, so unlocking the tower effectively opens both your research and Alchemy systems at the same time.

Use the Study Table to Fill Specific Tech Point Gaps

The biggest mistake you can make with the Study Table is treating it like a place where you dump random items whenever you happen to have Science.

I find it much more useful to work backward from the technology I actually want.

If a new technology needs 80 Blue points and you only have 25, look through your available studies for items that reward Blue. If you're short on Green instead, do the same thing with Green-heavy studies.

A Better Study Table Loop
• Decide which technology you want next
• Check which Tech Point color you're missing
• Generate enough Science
• Study items that reward that specific color
• Unlock the technology
• Bring newly crafted materials back and check their study rewards

This turns the Study Table into a way of controlling your tech unlocks rather than simply hoping normal crafting eventually gives you enough points.

It also means you don't need to research everything the moment you find it. Holding a few strong studies in reserve can be useful when an expensive technology suddenly leaves you short on one color.

Science Kits Are Far Better Than Decomposing Clean Paper

Science is the resource you spend when studying items, and the Study Table also gives you the way to generate it through Decompose.

Clean Paper can be decomposed for 1 Science each, but Science Kits become dramatically more efficient once you can make them at a Writing Desk.

Science Values
• Clean Paper: 1 Science
• Science Kit I: 30 Science each
• Science Kit II: 60 Science each

The important part is that Science Kits are crafted in batches of three.

That means one Science Kit I craft represents 90 Science when all three kits are decomposed, while one Science Kit II craft can eventually give you 180 Science.

That changes how I value Clean Paper. Once Science Kits are available, loose paper is better treated as an ingredient for making larger Science batches rather than something to feed into the Study Table one sheet at a time.

Science Kit I Recipe
• 1 Alchemy Flask I
• 5 Clean Paper
• 1 Ink
• Produces 3 Science Kits
• 90 total Science after decomposition

Science Kit II later raises that ceiling further, using stronger writing materials in exchange for 60 Science per kit.

Use Normal Crafting for Passive Points and Research for Big Shortages

The Study Table isn't your only source of Red, Green, and Blue Tech Points.

Normal crafting and work around the base also award colored points, so there is no reason to spend Science on every low-value study just because the option exists.

The table shines when normal work isn't giving you the color you need quickly enough.

Blue Tech Points are the most obvious example. They are attached to many important technologies but can be much slower to accumulate through routine work than Red or Green.

When I Use the Study Table
• I'm short on Blue points for a specific unlock
• A new material gives a large one-time reward
• I need points immediately instead of grinding normal crafts
• I want to reveal an Alchemy ingredient's runes
• I've just entered a new equipment or material tier

For smaller Red or Green shortages, it can sometimes be faster to finish a few ordinary production jobs rather than spend valuable Science on a weak study.

The Study Table is most efficient when you're solving a specific shortage.

Study New Material Tiers, Rare Items, and High-Blue Rewards First

You only get the main research reward from a study once, so variety matters much more than repetition.

That makes new item tiers especially valuable. When you unlock better tools, metals, Alchemy materials, equipment, or unusual quest rewards, check them at the Study Table before forgetting about them in storage.

Good Things to Check at the Study Table
• Newly unlocked metals and materials
• Higher-tier tools and equipment
• Alchemy ingredients you haven't studied yet
• Rare books and quest rewards
• Anything offering a large Blue Tech Point payout

The Necronomicon is the extreme example. Once you get it through Gunter's later questline, studying it gives 300 Blue Tech Points, which can wipe out several expensive technology requirements at once.

Late-game tools and equipment can also give much larger returns than ordinary materials, so I wouldn't assume the Study Table is mostly an early-game system.

Blue Crystal is another useful example because it has several roles at once. You need it for Zombie Collars and Alchemy, but it can also be studied for Tech Points. The Graveyard Keeper 2 Blue Crystal guide covers its renewable sources and other uses.

Study Alchemy Ingredients Before You Start Mixing Them

Tech Points are only half of what makes the Study Table valuable.

Studying an Alchemy ingredient reveals the Red, Green, and Blue runes attached to that material. Those rune values are what determine which formulas the ingredient can satisfy.

Once you've studied enough ingredients, Alchemy becomes much less about memorizing one exact recipe and much more about assembling the rune total you need from whatever materials you have available.

Why Study Ingredients?
• Reveals their Alchemy runes
• Lets you substitute ingredients intelligently
• Reduces wasted materials from random mixing
• Makes exact rune formulas much easier to reproduce

This becomes especially useful with recipes that have many valid combinations.

For example, Rich Growth Elixir needs an exact 1 red + 3 green total but can be made from dozens of different ingredient combinations.

Reanimation Liquid works the same way with a much larger rune requirement, making studied ingredient values especially useful when you're trying to support a growing zombie workforce.

The Graveyard Keeper 2 Alchemy guide covers the full rune system, Laboratories, and recipe logic if you want to go deeper into how those combinations work.

Do Not Demolish the Study Table on Versions That Still Allow It

The Study Table in the Alchemy Lab should be treated as permanent.

Some console versions have allowed players to dismantle it even though there is no normally available technology, quest, or perk that lets you simply rebuild another one afterward.

There is a Study Table construction entry in the game data costing 2 Wooden Planks and 3 Bronze Details, but the actual build unlock is not normally available.

If You Accidentally Destroyed It
• Open Load Game rather than Continue
• Look for a save from before the demolition
• Restore that save if the lost playtime is acceptable
• Don't expect Laboratory II to replace the Study Table
• Check future game updates for a platform fix

PC has received fixes preventing at least some versions of this issue, while console players have reported being able to remove the workstation.

Laboratory II is not an upgrade to the Study Table either. They serve completely different purposes: Laboratories create Alchemy products, while the Study Table produces Science, reveals ingredient runes, and converts Science into one-time Tech Point rewards.

If your version still gives you an option to dismantle the Study Table, I would leave it exactly where it is.

For more crafting, Alchemy, and material walkthroughs, the Graveyard Keeper 2 guides cover the other systems you'll need around the base.
