Graveyard Keeper 2 Zombie Gardener Guide
The Zombie Gardener in Graveyard Keeper 2 can automate planting and harvesting, but assigning a zombie to the garden is not enough on its own. The worker needs to be placed at a Gardener Stand, equipped with a shovel, given enough Farming Mastery for the crop, and told what to grow through crop tablets.

To make a Zombie Gardener work, assign the zombie to a Gardener Stand, equip it with a shovel, build Garden Beds, and place the correct crop tablet for the row you want automated.

The main mistake is treating the Garden Bed itself like a workstation. Zombies do not get assigned directly to individual beds. The Gardener Stand controls the worker, while crop tablets tell that worker which plants to maintain.

Unlock Zombie Gardening and Build the Gardener Stand
The Zombie Gardener becomes available after researching Zombie Gardening in the Farming technology tree.
Zombie Gardening comes after Garden Improvement I and costs 60 Green and 20 Blue Tech Points.
The technology unlocks the Gardener Stand along with the Lifting Crane.
Gardener Stand Build Cost
• 4 Wooden Planks
• 2 Bronze Details
• 6 Bronze Nails
Build the stand from the Garden Blueprint Desk, then physically assign the zombie to it.
The Lifting Crane is not required just to make the Zombie Gardener plant and harvest. It handles transport separately, so get the Gardener Stand working first before adding more automation.
Your Zombie Gardener Needs a Shovel for Farming Mastery
If the zombie is standing at the Gardener Stand but doing nothing, check its hand slot.
A Zombie Gardener needs enough Farming Mastery for the selected crop, and the easiest way to get that initial Mastery is by giving the worker a shovel.
Inspect the zombie, select its empty hand slot, then choose the shovel from your inventory.

• Select the empty hand slot
• Equip a shovel
• Check its new Farming Mastery
• Compare that against the crop requirement
A Bronze Shovel provides 2 Farming Mastery, which is enough to get a fresh worker started on basic crops such as Wheat.
Better shovels provide more Mastery, so if the Zombie Gardener handles Wheat but refuses to plant a higher-level crop, the worker may simply need a stronger tool.
Crop Tablets Tell the Zombie Gardener What to Grow
Even a properly equipped Zombie Gardener will remain idle if no crop has been assigned.
Open the Garden Blueprint menu and switch to the crop/tablet section. From there, choose the crop you want and place its tablet for the corresponding row of Garden Beds.

• Open the Garden Blueprint Desk
• Switch to the crop tablet tab
• Choose the crop you want
• Place its tablet for the row
• Keep enough seeds available for replanting
This lets you control the garden by row instead of relying on the worker to decide what should be planted.
If a crop tablet does not appear even though you have the crop unlocked, players have reported that manually planting that crop in the row once can sometimes make the tablet available afterward.
Zombie Gardeners Do Not Apply Fertilizer for You
The Zombie Gardener handles the planting and harvesting loop, but fertilizer still needs to be applied manually.
Fertilizer remains on the Garden Bed as an ongoing improvement, so you only need to install it rather than feeding fertilizer into every crop cycle.
The tricky part is getting access to an empty bed once the zombie is already working.
How to Fertilize Zombie-Worked Beds
• Pause or remove the Zombie Gardener
• Clear the Garden Bed
• Apply fertilizer yourself
• Restore the crop assignment if necessary
• Reactivate the zombie
I would fertilize the beds before fully automating a large garden. Otherwise, the worker can immediately replant an empty plot before you get a chance to upgrade it.

Make Sure the Zombie Gardener Has Somewhere to Put Crops
A working Zombie Gardener also needs a valid destination for harvested produce.
Keep garden storage available and avoid filling every slot. If the worker has nowhere to place a finished harvest, the farming loop can stop even though the crop assignment and Mastery are otherwise correct.
The Lifting Crane can later move harvested crops away from the garden, but that introduces another layer to the system.
If crops seem to disappear after building the Crane, check the underground transport route. Players have reported produce being sent below ground even when the connected basement path had not yet been cleared.
If Your Zombie Gardener Is Not Working, Check These First
A Zombie Gardener standing beside the crops usually means one requirement in the setup is missing.
I would check the worker in this order:

• Is the zombie assigned to the Gardener Stand?
• Does it have a shovel equipped?
• Does it have enough Farming Mastery?
• Is a crop tablet assigned to the row?
• Are Garden Beds actually built there?
• Are enough seeds available?
• Is there free storage for harvested crops?
The shovel and crop tablet are the two easiest requirements to overlook. A zombie can be standing in the correct place with perfectly good Garden Beds and still do nothing because it has zero Farming Mastery or no crop assignment.
If all of those requirements are met and a particular crop still refuses to work, try manually planting and harvesting that crop once before changing the entire setup. Some players have reported individual crop assignments beginning to function afterward.
