Graveyard Keeper 2 Explosive Dust: Recipe & Dynamite

Graveyard Keeper 2 Explosive Dust: Recipe & Dynamite

Explosive Dust is the Alchemy ingredient you need before you can start making Dynamite in Graveyard Keeper 2, including the explosives used to clear additional blocked sections of the Factory. You can actually find a small amount without brewing anything, but once that supply is gone, making more comes down to hitting one exact Alchemy requirement: 2 red runes and 2 blue runes.

Get 2 Explosive Dust From the Old Mine or Brew More With Alchemy

There are two practical ways to get Explosive Dust in Graveyard Keeper 2.

The first is a one-time pickup: a Simple Chest in the Old Mine starts the game with 2 Explosive Dust inside.

The second is Alchemy. Once you need more than those first two pieces, combine ingredients whose runes total exactly 2 red and 2 blue.

Explosive Dust Sources
• Old Mine chest: 2 Explosive Dust, one time
• Alchemy: Any valid 2- or 3-ingredient combination totaling 2 red + 2 blue
• Each Alchemy brew also consumes 1 Alchemy Flask

If you only need enough Dust to make your first Dynamite, I'd check the Old Mine before spending materials experimenting at the Laboratory.

Tin + Blood Is One of the Easiest Early Explosive Dust Recipes

A particularly convenient early combination is Tin plus Blood.

Tin provides 2 red and 1 blue rune, while Blood supplies the remaining blue rune needed to hit the exact Explosive Dust formula.

Seed Oil can fill the same role as Blood if that's easier to spare.

Easy Explosive Dust Mixes
• Tin + Blood
• Tin + Seed Oil
• Final total: 2 Red + 2 Blue
• Uses 1 Alchemy Flask per brew

I prefer a two-item recipe here because it removes a lot of unnecessary variables. There are many possible Explosive Dust combinations, but if Tin plus one common blue-rune ingredient already reaches the target, there isn't much reason to build a more complicated three-item mixture.

Another confirmed combination is Night Flower + Red Mushroom, which also reaches the required 2 red and 2 blue total.

Explosive Dust Requires Exactly 2 Red and 2 Blue Runes

Explosive Dust is not tied to one fixed ingredient recipe.

The formula cares about the combined rune values of your ingredients. Any valid two- or three-item mix that reaches exactly 2 red and 2 blue can produce it.

There are more than 100 valid ingredient combinations, so memorizing every possible recipe would be far less useful than understanding the rune target.

Explosive Dust Formula
• Red runes: Exactly 2
• Blue runes: Exactly 2
• Green runes: 0
• Use 2 or 3 valid ingredients
• Requires 1 Alchemy Flask per craft

This means more runes are not better. A combination that reaches 3 red + 2 blue is a different formula, not an upgraded Explosive Dust recipe.

The Graveyard Keeper 2 Alchemy guide explains how ingredient runes work and why different materials can produce the same Alchemy result.

Study Your Ingredients and Check Your Alchemy Flasks if the Recipe Won't Start

If your ingredients appear to total 2 red and 2 blue but the Laboratory still won't let you brew Explosive Dust, don't immediately assume you need a higher Laboratory.

Start by checking whether the ingredients have actually been studied. Their rune values should be revealed rather than still displaying question marks.

Then check the Laboratory's Alchemy Flask supply. Explosive Dust consumes one Flask every time you brew it, so the correct ingredients alone aren't enough.

If Explosive Dust Won't Craft
• Study the ingredients so their runes are revealed
• Confirm the total is exactly 2 red + 2 blue
• Make sure you have an Alchemy Flask available
• Try a simple two-item recipe such as Tin + Blood
• Don't assume Laboratory II is required just because it has more ingredient slots

That last point is worth emphasizing. Explosive Dust can be made with a two-item Alchemy combination, so Laboratory II isn't inherently necessary just to reach the formula.

If you've been trying to use three ingredients simply because Laboratory II gives you three slots, reduce the recipe to a known two-item combination first. It's much easier to see which requirement is failing.

Explosive Dust Is Mainly Used to Make Dynamite

Explosive Dust's main purpose is Dynamite.

Dynamite becomes useful for removing specific blocked walls and opening additional areas, including obstructions connected to the Factory.

This is why I wouldn't sell or waste the Old Mine's first two Explosive Dust. No trader buys the item anyway, and the free supply can save you an Alchemy craft when you first reach content that needs explosives.

What to Do With Explosive Dust
• Keep the 2 free pieces from the Old Mine
• Use Alchemy once you need a renewable supply
• Turn Explosive Dust into Dynamite when that recipe becomes available
• Use Dynamite to clear designated blocked passages

Alcohol is also involved in Dynamite crafting, so if that material is the next part stopping you, the Graveyard Keeper 2 Alcohol guide covers the brewing chain.

If you're specifically making Dynamite to open more of your industrial area, the Graveyard Keeper 2 Factory guide covers the wider Factory unlock and automation setup.

Use the Free Dust First, Then Standardize One Easy Alchemy Recipe

I wouldn't approach Explosive Dust by collecting a huge list of possible ingredient combinations.

Take the two free pieces from the Old Mine when you need them, then choose one renewable Alchemy combination and stick with it. Tin + Blood or Tin + Seed Oil is much easier to remember and stock than constantly rebuilding the same 2-red/2-blue total from whatever happens to be in storage.

Once those ingredients have been studied and your Laboratory has Alchemy Flasks available, Explosive Dust becomes a straightforward repeatable craft rather than something you need to rediscover every time you want more Dynamite.
