Star Wars Galactic Racer Multiplayer Modes Guide

Star Wars: Galactic Racer has a fairly substantial multiplayer side, with standard online races, dedicated Podracing, longer runs-based Tours, and full crossplay between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. There are a few restrictions worth knowing before trying to organize a group, though, particularly the current party-size limit and the lack of local split-screen.

Does Star Wars Galactic Racer Have Multiplayer?

Yes. Star Wars: Galactic Racer has online multiplayer for up to 12 players in standard speeder racing and up to 8 players in Podracing.

Multiplayer is available across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with cross-platform play enabled between all three. You can either jump into individual races or enter longer multiplayer Tours where your vehicle changes as the competition progresses.

Standard Online Racing: Up to 12 players
Online Podracing: Up to 8 players
Crossplay: Yes
Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S
Split-Screen: No
Local Multiplayer: No
Offline Multiplayer: No
Current Party Size: Up to 3 players

The important distinction is between the number of racers in a match and how many friends you can currently bring in one party. A standard race can contain 12 players, but your premade party is currently limited to three players.

All Star Wars Galactic Racer Multiplayer Modes

Galactic Racer splits its online multiplayer between quick individual races and longer Tour formats.

Quick Race
Standard online speeder racing for up to 12 players without the longer Tour structure.

Quick Podrace
A standalone Podracing event for up to 8 players.

Multiplayer Tour
A six-race competition for standard repulsorcraft where your build develops between events.

Podracing Tour
The longer Tour format built specifically around Podracers, with up to 8 racers.

Quick Race and Quick Podrace make the most sense when you simply want to race without committing to a longer run. Multiplayer Tour and Podracing Tour are where Galactic Racer's roguelite structure becomes part of online play.

How Multiplayer Tour Works

Multiplayer Tour is more than six unrelated races added together.

The first five events act as the build-up to a final championship race. As the Tour continues, you earn resources, improve your vehicle, add Parts and Abilities, and make decisions that affect how strong your setup becomes by the final event.

That makes the early races important even if you do not win them. Your results affect the resources available for the rest of the Tour, and the objective is ultimately to arrive at the last event with a build capable of winning when everything is on the line.

Podracing Tour follows the same broader idea but uses the faster, less forgiving Podracers instead of Galactic Racer's standard customizable repulsorcraft.

How to Play Star Wars Galactic Racer Multiplayer With Friends

You can form an online party and enter Galactic Racer multiplayer together rather than relying entirely on random matchmaking.

Friends playing on the same platform can use their normal platform friend connections, while cross-platform friend management uses Epic Online Services.

For Steam players in particular, Epic Online Services is used to support cross-platform multiplayer, friend management, and invites. If you want to manage friends who are not on Steam, you will need to sign into an Epic Games account.

Same-platform friends: Invite them to your party and enter multiplayer together.

Cross-platform friends: Use the game's cross-platform friend system supported through Epic Online Services.

Steam players: An Epic Games sign-in is needed to manage non-Steam friends.

Current party limit: 3 players total.

Once your party is formed, you can matchmake into whichever multiplayer format you want rather than needing everyone to independently search for the same race.

Does Star Wars Galactic Racer Have Crossplay?

Yes. Star Wars: Galactic Racer has full cross-platform online multiplayer between PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Crossplay is enabled by default, although it can be disabled.

That means a player on Xbox can race with friends on PS5 or PC without everyone having to purchase the same version of the game.

PC ↔ PS5: Yes
PC ↔ Xbox Series X|S: Yes
PS5 ↔ Xbox Series X|S: Yes
Enabled by default: Yes
Can crossplay be disabled? Yes

Crossplay should not be confused with cross-save. Cross-platform multiplayer is confirmed, but full progression sharing between different platform accounts has not been confirmed in the same way.

How Many Players Can Play Galactic Racer Multiplayer?

The maximum number depends on which type of racing you choose.

Standard speeder multiplayer supports up to 12 racers, while Podracing supports up to 8.

Your friend party is currently much smaller. At launch, Galactic Racer supports parties of up to three players.

Fuse Games has already announced that it is working on increasing the party limit from three to six players, with the update targeted for the first few weeks after launch.

Standard Race Maximum: 12 players
Podrace Maximum: 8 players
Current Premade Party: 3 players
Planned Party Size: 6 players
Target: Within the first few weeks after launch

This means you currently cannot fill an entire 12-player race with your own friend group, even though the race itself supports that many players.

Does Star Wars Galactic Racer Have Local Multiplayer or Split-Screen?

No. Star Wars: Galactic Racer does not have local multiplayer or split-screen.

Two players cannot connect controllers to one PS5, Xbox, or PC and race each other on the same screen. Multiplayer requires separate systems and an online connection.

This applies even though older Star Wars racing games may have made couch multiplayer a natural expectation. Galactic Racer's multiplayer is entirely built around online play.

Does Star Wars Galactic Racer Have Offline Multiplayer?

No. There is no offline multiplayer mode because Galactic Racer does not support local or split-screen racing.

The game itself can still be played offline, though. The solo Campaign, Scenarios, and Arcade events are all available without an active online connection.

Campaign Offline: Yes
Scenarios Offline: Yes
Arcade Offline: Yes
Offline Multiplayer: No
Online Multiplayer: Internet connection required

Connected features such as online multiplayer and Arcade friend leaderboards still require you to be online.

How Does Galactic Racer Multiplayer Matchmaking Work?

Matchmaking first tries to place you into an existing race or Tour that still has room.

For Multiplayer Tour and Podracing Tour, that can mean joining a Tour that has already started. If this happens, you may initially enter in Spectator Mode and then join at the next race.

The game compensates late joiners with resources so that entering after the first race does not automatically leave you several rounds behind everyone else's build.

If matchmaking cannot find an existing session with room, Galactic Racer can create a new race or Tour once at least two unique players are searching and then continue filling the lobby.

That late-join system is particularly useful for Tours because otherwise a player leaving early could permanently reduce the field for the rest of a six-race session.

Does Galactic Racer Have Private or Custom Multiplayer Lobbies?

Not at launch.

Galactic Racer currently relies on online matchmaking rather than giving players a complete private or custom-race system where a large group can fill its own lobby.

This has quickly become one of the main requests from multiplayer players alongside the three-player party limit.

Fuse Games has confirmed the party-size increase is already in development, but private and custom racing has not been formally announced. The developers have said they are listening to requests and looking at how the community wants to play.

So the distinction right now is:

6-player parties: Confirmed as a planned update.
Private lobbies: Requested, but not confirmed.
Custom races: Requested, but not confirmed.

Is Star Wars Galactic Racer Multiplayer Good?

If you are deciding whether Galactic Racer is worth buying specifically for multiplayer, the biggest reason to play online is Multiplayer Tour rather than the existence of ordinary Quick Races.

Quick Race and Quick Podrace give you the expected competitive arcade-racing experience. Tour is what separates Galactic Racer from a more conventional online racer because vehicle building becomes part of the competition.

You are not only trying to drive better than everyone else. You are also trying to create a stronger setup over five races before gambling that work on the championship event.

That structure gives different players a reason to prefer different modes:

Want pure racing? Play Quick Race or Quick Podrace.

Want builds and upgrades? Play Multiplayer Tour.

Mainly here for Podracing? Quick Podrace and Podracing Tour both support it.

Playing with friends on different systems? Crossplay makes Galactic Racer particularly easy to group across platforms.

Want couch multiplayer? Galactic Racer will not meet that need at launch.

The major weakness right now is group flexibility. A 12-player racer launching with only three players allowed in a premade party is restrictive, especially for larger friend groups, and the lack of private racing compounds that problem.

The planned six-player party update will improve that substantially, although players looking to create their own full custom race will still need to wait and see what Fuse Games adds after launch.

What Are Players Saying About Galactic Racer Multiplayer?

If you are searching Reddit or other community discussions for multiplayer impressions, the most common launch concern is not the actual race size. It is how difficult it currently is to organize a larger group of friends.

The game itself supports up to 12 racers, but the three-player party cap means larger groups cannot currently queue together as one party. Private and custom lobbies are another frequent request.

Fuse Games has already responded to that feedback by confirming that the party limit is being increased to six. Private racing has not received the same confirmation yet.

On the other hand, Multiplayer Tour has been one of the more positively discussed pieces of the online game because it takes the campaign's runs-based vehicle building and turns it into a shorter competitive format instead of making multiplayer nothing more than disconnected races.

If you plan on going after the full game completion while playing online, our Star Wars Galactic Racer achievements guide covers all 49 achievements and the larger 1,000 Gamerscore roadmap.

For now, the multiplayer picture is fairly simple. Galactic Racer has full online crossplay, 12-player standard racing, 8-player Podracing, Quick and Tour formats, and the ability to play with friends across platforms. What it does not have is split-screen, offline multiplayer, or private custom racing, while the current three-player party limit is already scheduled to increase after launch.
