WoW Forever Best Class Tier List: All 9 Ranked

WoW Forever changes enough about the original Vanilla classes that I'd be careful using an old Classic tier list to pick your main. Several specs that once struggled now have proper tools, hybrid classes have more viable ways to play, and Forever is being built to keep expanding at level 60 rather than immediately moving everyone into the next expansion. For this ranking, I'm judging the complete class across leveling, solo play, dungeons, raids, PvP, utility, and long-term flexibility instead of simply asking which spec can produce the biggest damage number.

WoW Forever Best Class Tier List

My overall WoW Forever class ranking for the Global launch is:

S Tier
Shaman • Druid • Paladin • Mage

A Tier
Warrior • Warlock • Priest • Hunter

B Tier
Rogue

S tier is dominated by classes that either do several jobs exceptionally well or enter Forever with an already excellent toolkit. A tier contains classes I'd still be completely comfortable maining, but each gives up something in versatility or independence. Rogue lands in B because this is an overall ranking: it's excellent at what Rogue does, but what Rogue does is considerably narrower than what most of the classes above it can offer.

S Tier Classes

Shaman
Tier: S
Roles: Melee DPS, Ranged DPS, Healer
Best for: Players who want one character with answers for almost everything

Shaman is my best overall class going into WoW Forever. Restoration keeps its strong healing and group utility, while Elemental and Enhancement receive meaningful help with damage, mana, mobility, and their actual rotations. You can level independently, heal when a group needs it, swap between ranged and melee damage, and bring utility that remains useful even when you aren't topping a meter.

The important distinction is that Shaman's strength isn't dependent on one spec being overtuned at Global launch. Even if balance changes, the class still has multiple ways to remain valuable.

Druid
Tier: S
Roles: Tank, Melee DPS, Ranged DPS, Healer
Best for: Maximum role flexibility on a single character

Druid may have the strongest long-term argument of any Forever class because it can cover virtually every major job. Feral supports both Cat and Bear gameplay, Restoration has improved group-healing options, and Balance is getting more help with the mana and rotational problems that historically made it difficult to justify in Vanilla.

That's especially valuable in an evergreen version of WoW. You might level as Feral, tank dungeons at 60, heal for a group later, then build toward Balance without abandoning the character you've already invested in.

Paladin
Tier: S
Roles: Tank, Melee DPS, Healer
Best for: Players who want a durable character that can fill any core party role

Paladin receives one of Forever's most important transformations. Protection finally gets much better support for functioning as an actual tank, Retribution has more active gameplay and improved resource management, and Holy retains the healing and utility that already gave Paladin a strong reason to exist in groups.

That changes how I'd evaluate the entire class. Instead of choosing Paladin while knowing that some talent trees may eventually funnel you toward a much narrower endgame role, Forever gives all three directions a more serious foundation.

Mage
Tier: S
Roles: Ranged DPS
Best for: Leveling, farming, PvP, AoE, utility, and pure caster gameplay

Mage doesn't have hybrid-class flexibility, but it doesn't need it. Frost brings control and safety, Fire has stronger critical-strike interactions, and Arcane is becoming a much more complete specialization instead of feeling like the unfinished third option.

You also get the stuff that makes Mage valuable outside a raid encounter: portals, teleports, food and water, crowd control, slows, AoE farming, and excellent control over open-world fights. If you only want to DPS, Mage would be my S-tier choice before the WoW Forever Global launch.

A Tier Classes

Warrior
Tier: A
Roles: Tank, Melee DPS
Best for: Players willing to trade early convenience for strong geared performance

Warrior could easily move into S tier once we have real level-60 Global data. Its ceiling has never really been the concern; the trade-off is that Warriors can be more dependent on gear and weapons and don't have the solo sustain or ranged options available to several classes above them.

If you're primarily interested in endgame physical DPS or traditional tanking, I'd value Warrior considerably higher than its placement on a generalized list suggests.

Warlock
Tier: A
Roles: Ranged DPS
Best for: Solo players who want a self-sufficient caster

Warlock has pets, drains, Life Tap, crowd control, damage-over-time pressure, and enough built-in sustainability to handle a lot of the world without relying heavily on other players. Forever is also giving Affliction, Demonology, and Destruction clearer individual identities.

It's one of my favorite launch choices for solo progression. The only real reason it sits below the S-tier hybrids is that every Warlock specialization ultimately returns to the same broad job: dealing damage.

Priest
Tier: A
Roles: Healer, Ranged DPS
Best for: Players who expect healing to be their main endgame role

Priest remains an extremely easy class to justify in organized content. Its healing foundation is excellent, Discipline gets additional support tools, and Shadow gives you a legitimate offensive path for leveling and solo content.

If I were specifically ranking healers, Priest would have a much stronger argument for the top. It sits in A here because we're judging the complete character across every type of content rather than only asking who I want healing a difficult group.

Hunter
Tier: A
Roles: Ranged DPS, with Survival offering closer-range gameplay
Best for: Fast, comfortable leveling and open-world progression

Hunter should be one of the easiest classes to recommend for actually getting through the Global launch leveling rush. Pets absorb pressure, ranged combat makes questing comfortable, and Forever gives Beast Mastery, Marksmanship, and Survival more distinct reasons to exist.

I'd put Hunter particularly high for someone who values leveling and exploration over organized endgame flexibility. It's straightforward to get value from and doesn't require your character to already be covered in raid gear before it starts feeling good.

B Tier Classes

Rogue
Tier: B
Roles: Melee DPS
Best for: Stealth, PvP, control, and players who specifically want Rogue gameplay

Rogue isn't down here because I expect it to be weak. It's down here because this ranking rewards breadth, and Rogue is deliberately specialized. You get stealth, excellent control, poisons, strong openers, interrupts, burst opportunities, and the ability to decide when many PvP engagements begin.

Forever improves the class as well, including the huge quality-of-life change that prevents combo points from disappearing simply because you switched targets. Assassination, Combat, and Subtlety also retain more distinct identities.

For a PvP-focused player, I'd move Rogue substantially higher. For someone asking which single character gives them the greatest number of options across all of WoW Forever, it has fewer answers than the classes above it.

What Is the Best Class to Start With in WoW Forever?

For the widest possible range of content, I'd start WoW Forever with Shaman or Druid. Shaman gives you melee damage, ranged damage, healing, strong utility, and comfortable solo progression, while Druid goes even further on role coverage by adding legitimate tanking to the equation.

If you don't want a hybrid, Mage is my pick. It's one of the few classes where specializing entirely in damage doesn't make the overall package feel narrow because so much of its value comes from control, travel, farming, AoE, and open-world utility.

Paladin is the other class I'd watch especially closely at Global launch. Forever is specifically addressing problems that kept Protection and Retribution from realizing their full Vanilla potential, so its ability to tank, heal, or deal melee damage should matter far more than it did under the old Classic assumptions.

Your race can also change which of these choices are actually available. Our WoW Forever classes and races guide has the complete Horde and Alliance combinations, including the new Skyborne options and additions like Undead Paladin and Dwarf Shaman.

I would treat this as a launch ranking rather than a permanent declaration of the Forever meta. The real test starts when Global players reach level 60, optimized builds settle in, and raid performance gives us enough data to judge the redesigned specs against each other. Until then, overall flexibility matters more to me than trying to crown a class from temporary beta damage numbers.
