Capcom's 2024 PC Game Sales Overtake Consoles, Exceeding 50% of Total Sales
Capcom's PC sales are booming and have made up over half of its total game sales in the first half of this fiscal year. Titles like Dragon's Dogma 2 and Resident Evil 4 Remake have been a big part of this increase, setting Capcom up for even more growth in the PC market in the near future, especially in Japan where the PC gaming market has tripled in only four years.
Capcom, the absolute powerhouse behind legendary franchises like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, and Mega Man (one of our personal favorites), has remained influential in gaming since the late 1980s. Recent years have been particularly lucrative for the company, with Monster Hunter World alone selling over 25 million copies worldwide, and the recent Resident Evil remakes attracting both new fans and bringing back long-time followers. Even with fewer releases over the past six months, Capcom is expected to hit its yearly goals and PC sales are driving the majority of that success.
According to Capcom's latest financial results, PC accounted for an entire 54% of its total game sales, outpacing consoles. In comparison, sales for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox together made up only 40%. This is a pretty big deal because console sales dominated Capcom’s numbers in previous years. Dragon's Dogma 2, as just another example, saw over 228,000 players at launch on Steam.
In fact, Capcom recently announced this would be its best fiscal year yet, with Dragon's Dogma 2 and Street Fighter 6 playing major roles in the company’s financial success. With future console launches on the horizon, like the PlayStation 5 Pro and a new Nintendo device, the balance may shift back towards console, but for now at least, Capcom’s focus remains on capitalizing on its success in the PC market.
If we are to look ahead, Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds, slated for release on February 28, 2025, might add even more fuel to the fire. With the massive popularity of Monster Hunter World )peaking with over 300,000 concurrent players) on Steam, Monster Hunter Wilds could be another absolute banger and push Capcom to put even more focus on PC over consoles.
