AION 2 Best Pet Guide
Pets in AION 2 are more than cosmetic companions or mounts. Collecting and leveling them gives permanent Owned Effects and Genus bonuses, which means the best pet depends less on appearance and more on what stats that pet contributes to your character.

What Is the Best Pet in AION 2?
For general combat, we recommend prioritizing a Cogni pet in AION 2. Cogni pets provide HP, Critical Hit, and Might as their Owned Effects, with Might directly increasing Attack.
That combination makes Cogni the strongest all-purpose Pet Genus for players who primarily care about increasing damage rather than movement or defensive utility.
Best Overall Pet Genus: Cogni
Best For: General damage builds
Level 3 Effects: HP +30, Critical Hit +2, Might +1
Good Early Elyos Pet: Klaw
Good Early Asmodian Pet: Decomposed Lupyllini
You do not need one exact named pet to get these bonuses. Pets within the same Genus provide the same Owned Effects at equivalent Insight levels, so accessibility matters more than chasing one supposedly best species.
AION 2 Best Pet Genus Ranked
If we are ranking pets by their general usefulness to a character rather than appearance or mount preference, this is how we would prioritize the four major Genus options.
1. Cogni: HP, Critical Hit, and Might
2. Natura: Stamina, Critical Hit Resist, and Precision
3. Fera: Mount Ground Speed, Accuracy Bonus, and Dexterity
4. Varian: Mount Sprint efficiency, Evasion Bonus, and Constitution
Cogni takes first because its bonuses are immediately useful to most damage-focused builds. Natura is close behind because Precision contributes to Accuracy and Critical Hit, making it valuable if your build needs help landing attacks consistently.
Fera and Varian are still useful, but more of their value is tied to movement or defensive stats rather than raw offensive performance.
Best Pet for Damage
Cogni is the best Pet Genus if your main goal is increasing damage.
At Insight Level 3, Cogni pets provide HP +30, Critical Hit +2, and Might +1. Might increases Attack, while the Critical Hit bonus gives the Genus another direct offensive benefit.
For Elyos, Klaw is an accessible early Cogni pet. For Asmodians, Decomposed Lupyllini can be obtained from low-level enemies in Altgard.
Elyos: Look for Klaw pets
Asmodian: Look for Decomposed Lupyllini
Why: Both give access to the Cogni stat line without requiring a difficult late-game pet farm
These bonuses also contribute to your wider character setup, alongside gear and other permanent systems covered in our AION 2 Combat Power guide.
Natura Is Best If You Need Accuracy and Critical Hit
Natura pets are the strongest alternative to Cogni for offensive builds.
Their Level 3 effects include Stamina +9, Critical Hit Resist +2, and Precision +1. Precision improves both Accuracy and Critical Hit, so Natura becomes especially useful if missing attacks is holding your build back.
Fungie and Agrint are accessible options for Elyos, while Rafflesia is an early Natura target for Asmodians.
If your current stats already provide enough raw Attack, increasing Precision can sometimes give you more practical value than simply adding another damage-focused bonus.
Varian Is the Best Defensive Pet Genus
Players looking for survivability should prioritize Varian pets instead.
At Level 3, Varian provides Constitution +1, Evasion Bonus +2, and reduced Mount Sprint Stamina consumption. Constitution increases HP, making Varian the most directly defensive option among the four Genus types.
Kalgolem and Contaminated Slime are accessible Elyos options, while Asmodians can find Swarm enemies relatively early in Altgard.
Varian would not be our first recommendation for a normal damage build, but tanks or players who already have enough offensive stats can get considerably more value from the extra survivability.
Does the Specific Pet Actually Matter?
The most important thing to understand about the AION 2 pet system is that there is not one named pet that completely outclasses everything else.
Pets within the same Genus share the same Owned Effect progression, so a difficult-to-obtain Cogni pet does not automatically give better combat stats than an easier Cogni pet at the same Insight level.
That changes what “best pet” really means. Instead of chasing the rarest-looking species, prioritize an easily accessible pet from the Genus that gives the stats your build needs.
Want raw damage: Cogni
Want Accuracy and Critical Hit: Natura
Want Accuracy and movement utility: Fera
Want defense and HP: Varian
There is also a larger reason not to obsess over one pet. Owned Effects contribute value from your collection even when that pet is not currently being used as your mount, so AION 2 ultimately rewards collecting and leveling multiple pets rather than replacing everything with a single permanent best-in-slot companion.
For most players, though, Cogni is where we would start. Its combination of Might, Critical Hit, and HP gives it the most broadly useful combat stat package, while Natura becomes the better alternative when Accuracy and Precision are more important to your build.
