AION 2 Refining Stone Farm Guide

Refining Stones are used heavily in AION 2 crafting, but farming them efficiently is less about finding one perfect mob and more about using the activities that give them consistently. Shugo Festival and Dimensional Invasions are the best sources when available, while Expeditions and Sanctuaries give you a more repeatable way to build a stockpile alongside other rewards.

Best Refining Stone Farm in AION 2

The best Refining Stone farm is Shugo Festival or Dimensional Invasions when those activities are available. Outside of those windows, Expeditions are the most practical repeatable source, with Sanctuaries becoming another strong option once your character is far enough into the endgame.

Best when available: Shugo Festival
Also excellent: Dimensional Invasions
Best repeatable source: Expeditions
Later endgame: Sanctuaries
Fastest when you only need a few: Market
Not worth specifically farming: Random mobs and Field Bosses

The important part is not wasting time looking for a special Refining Stone farming spot. Regular enemies across a huge portion of the game can drop them, which means there is no single overworld location that suddenly turns them into a reliable mob farm.

Farm Shugo Festival and Dimensional Invasions First

Shugo Festival is one of the best places to build up Refining Stones because the activity directly rewards them while also giving you other useful materials. If the Festival is active and you need Stones, I would prioritize it over grinding normal enemies.

Dimensional Invasions are similarly valuable. Monster Cubes obtained through the activity can contain Refining Stones, giving you another high-yield source without standing in one Hunting Ground killing mobs and hoping for random drops.

This is the biggest difference between a good Refining Stone farm and an inefficient one: targeted activities give you a reason to expect Stones, while overworld farming only gives you a chance at them.

Expeditions Are the Best Regular Refining Stone Farm

When Shugo Festival or an Invasion is not available, Expeditions are the source I would build around. Expedition bosses can drop Refining Stones, and you are already running that content for equipment and other character upgrades.

That makes Expeditions much better than killing random overworld enemies purely for Stones. Even when the Refining Stone drops are not what you hoped for, the run is still moving your character forward elsewhere.

Sanctuaries fill the same role later in the endgame. They are much harder than normal Expeditions, but once you are already running them, they become another consistent Refining Stone source instead of something you need to farm separately.

If you are still working toward these systems, our AION 2 leveling guide covers the route to Level 45 and the first Gear Power thresholds after the campaign.

Can You Farm Refining Stones From Mobs?

Yes, regular enemies can drop Refining Stones, but I would treat those drops as a bonus rather than your main farming method.

Refining Stones can appear from enemies across many areas in Verteron, Altgard, the Abyss, islands, and other Hunting Grounds. Because the drop pool is spread so broadly, there is little benefit in traveling to a specific region just because enemies there technically drop Refining Stones.

If you already need to farm something else, that changes the equation. Killing enemies for materials, quests, pets, or another objective while occasionally getting Refining Stones is worthwhile because you are stacking several rewards together.

But if your only objective is Refining Stones, go to an activity that directly rewards them instead.

Should You Farm Field Bosses for Refining Stones?

Not specifically.

Field Bosses can drop Refining Stones, but they take longer to locate, wait for, and defeat than normal enemies or dungeon bosses. I would never camp a Field Boss purely because you need Refining Stones.

That does not make Field Bosses bad content. Their real value comes from things like Artwork, Pantheon progress, gear, skins, and other rewards. If you are already killing one for those reasons, any Refining Stones are simply another bonus.

Our AION 2 Field Bosses guide covers which bosses are actually worth prioritizing and why.

When Should You Buy Refining Stones From the Market?

If you only need a small number of Refining Stones to finish a craft, check the Market before starting an entire farming session.

The Market lets you buy the exact rarity you need, which can be far more efficient than hoping the correct Stone drops from an activity. This is particularly useful when you already have most of the materials for a recipe and Refining Stones are the only thing stopping you.

I would not automatically buy large stacks without comparing prices, though. Refining Stones are widely used for crafting, so demand can push listings high enough that farming them through your normal activities makes more sense.

If you have not used AION 2's player economy much yet, our AION 2 trading guide explains how the Market works on Global.

Refining Stone Rarities in AION 2

Refining Stones come in multiple rarities, and the one you need depends on the equipment you are trying to craft. Higher-rarity gear requires better Refining Stones, so simply having a large number of Common Stones does not mean you have what a later recipe needs.

Common: Refining Stone
Rare: Higher-tier crafting material
Epic: Higher-tier crafting material
Unique: Higher-tier crafting material

There are also specialized Refining Stones such as Artisan's Refining Stones, Expert's Refining Stones, and higher-tier variants, so always check the exact material listed in the recipe instead of assuming every item with "Refining Stone" in the name is interchangeable.

Best Way to Stockpile Refining Stones

I would not dedicate hours to a single Refining Stone grind. The more efficient strategy is to collect them while doing content you already need.

Run Shugo Festival and Dimensional Invasions when available, use Expeditions and eventually Sanctuaries as your regular source, keep the Stones that naturally drop while questing or farming other materials, and use the Market only when you are short on a specific rarity.

Need a lot: Prioritize Shugo Festival, Invasions, and dungeon content
Need a few: Check the Market
Already farming mobs: Keep the passive drops
Considering Field Bosses: Farm them for their main rewards, not Refining Stones

That approach gives you Refining Stones without turning them into a separate grind every time you want to craft another piece of gear.
