AION 2 Leveling Guide
Leveling to 45 in AION 2 is mostly about keeping the main story moving without arriving at the level cap with half of your permanent upgrades untouched and all of your valuable resources spent on gear you already replaced. The fastest route and the best first-character route are slightly different, so this guide focuses on reaching 45 quickly while picking up the systems that actually save time later.

Fastest AION 2 Leveling Route From 1-45
The fastest way to level in AION 2 is to use the Main Story Quest as your primary route, collect Empyrean Trace Feathers that are already along your path, complete mandatory Ascension quests, and clear useful first-time Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds without turning them into a grind.
You do not need to stop and clear every marker the moment it appears. Main Story Quests provide the bulk of your leveling EXP and unlock the systems you need later, so unnecessary detours generally slow down a pure 1-45 run.
Levels 1-10: Follow the Main Story and complete Ascension quests
Levels 10-22: Continue the story and clear useful first-time Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds
Levels 22-37: Keep pushing the story, equip Stigmas as their slots unlock, and preserve valuable dungeon resources
Levels 37-45: Finish the campaign and clean up high-value side content
At Level 45: Shift from character levels to Gear Power, Combat Power, and permanent upgrade systems
There is one important difference if this is your first character. I would accept a slightly slower 1-45 time to complete permanent or high-value content you are already passing. Going back across several regions at 45 to collect everything you deliberately ignored can erase the time you saved by skipping it in the first place.
Pick a Class You Actually Want to Level
Your class matters more than shaving a few minutes off the opening levels because AION 2 does not let you freely swap an existing character into another class later.
I would not pick a class solely because it currently levels a little faster. Balance can change, while the combat style you are committing to will remain much more noticeable over dozens of hours.
If you are still deciding, our AION 2 what class to play quiz matches the eight launch classes to your preferred role and combat style. You can also check our AION 2 class change guide before committing.
Levels 1-10 Focus on Unlocking the Game
The opening levels should be almost entirely story-driven. Follow the yellow Main Story markers, complete your early Ascension requirements when they appear, equip obvious gear upgrades, and keep moving.
This is not the point to farm enemies for EXP, spend time perfecting equipment, or chase a complete crafting setup. Your gear changes too quickly and the Main Story continues opening systems that are substantially more valuable than anything you can farm in the starting area.
Start collecting Empyrean Trace Feathers whenever they are reasonably close to your route. You do not need to cross an entire region for one feather while speed leveling, but ignoring every feather creates another map-clearing job for yourself later.
Levels 10-22 Start Taking the Valuable Detours
Around this part of the leveling route, Sealed Dungeons begin appearing and your map starts offering considerably more optional content.
This is where I would stop thinking in terms of "main quest versus side quest" and instead ask whether a detour gives you something that still matters after you outlevel the zone.
First-time Sealed Dungeons are worth much more attention than randomly grinding normal enemies because they contribute rewards such as Skill Points, Daevanion resources, and other character upgrades. Strongholds are also worth clearing as you move through a region rather than leaving every one untouched until 45.
You still do not need to zig-zag across the map to finish every green quest before advancing the story. Complete nearby side quests when the route is efficient or when you want their equipment and materials, then return to the Main Story.
Always prioritize: Main Story and required Ascension quests
Usually worth a detour: First-time Sealed Dungeons, Strongholds, nearby Feathers
Do when convenient: Regional and side quests along your existing route
Do not grind: Random mobs purely for leveling EXP
Levels 22-37 Are About Stigmas and Resource Discipline
Level 22 is one of the more meaningful points in the leveling route because your first Stigma slot becomes available and your first Expedition content begins opening.
Additional Stigma slots unlock at Levels 27, 32, and 37, so check your setup at each milestone instead of reaching 45 with empty slots. Stigmas can materially change how your class plays, particularly once you start fighting enemies that survive long enough for a real rotation to matter.
I would also start concentrating skill investment into the abilities you actually use rather than spreading upgrades evenly across your entire skill book. Two or three core attacks that form the center of your leveling rotation usually provide more immediate value than putting a small number of points into everything.
If you are playing Chanter, this is also where setting up your rotation properly starts becoming worthwhile. Our AION 2 Chanter macro guide covers the Dark Crush priority setup and which skills should remain manual.
Do Not Burn All Your Odyle Energy While Leveling
Expeditions introduce another trap: just because you can claim a dungeon reward does not mean the earliest reward is the best place to spend a limited resource.
Odyle Energy begins regenerating once this part of the dungeon system opens and is spent to claim certain reward chests. Later content offers better loot, so I would preserve a healthy amount of Energy instead of repeatedly cashing it out on the lowest-level dungeon you can enter.
That does not mean refusing to play Expeditions while leveling. Run them when you want the first clear, experience with the dungeon, or another useful reward. The distinction is between completing content and repeatedly consuming a limited reward resource on gear you will rapidly outgrow.
Levels 37-45 Finish the Campaign Before Chasing Gear Score
Once you are in the final stretch, keep pushing the Main Story instead of trying to force endgame-level equipment onto a character that has not actually reached the endgame yet.
Your quest rewards and normal drops are still replacing equipment regularly. Spend enough to keep your damage comfortable, but save your serious investment for the pieces you will carry into the Level 45 gearing phase.
This is also a good point to finish Ascension quests, important Regional Quests, untouched Sealed Dungeons, Strongholds, and nearby Feather collections if you skipped them earlier. The goal is to arrive at Level 45 with most of the one-time character upgrades already handled rather than hitting the cap and immediately discovering a huge checklist behind you.
What Gear Should You Upgrade While Leveling?
The best leveling gear strategy is to separate temporary equipment from long-term equipment.
Most armor and weapons you receive during the campaign are temporary. Do not dump high-quality Manastones, expensive rerolls, or large amounts of Kina into perfecting a piece that will be replaced by the next stretch of quests.
Enhancement up to +10 is less dangerous than it first appears because those early enhancement levels are guaranteed and invested Enhancement Stones can be recovered through extraction under the appropriate conditions. Kina spent on those upgrades is still gone, though, so upgrading every replacement piece remains wasteful.
Temporary armor: Equip upgrades and avoid expensive optimization
Main weapon: Moderate enhancement is reasonable if you will use it for a while
High-quality Manastones: Save for longer-term equipment
Belt and Amulet: Higher priority because their upgrade paths remain relevant later
Going beyond +10: Save for equipment you actually intend to keep
The Belt and Revelation Amulet are much better long-term investments than constantly enhancing disposable campaign armor. Those permanent accessory systems remain part of the early endgame route, and eventually reaching +10 allows you to continue developing them into higher rarities.
When old equipment starts filling your inventory, do not automatically delete it. Our AION 2 dismantle gear guide explains how to recover value from unwanted pieces.
Should You Collect Feathers While Leveling?
Yes. Empyrean Trace Feathers are one of the side objectives I would actively pick up during a first-character leveling run because they feed your Monolith and Revelation Amulet upgrades.
The important distinction is between collecting convenient feathers and stopping your leveling route to fully clear every map immediately. If a feather is along the route or only a short detour away, get it. If it requires a long trip in the opposite direction, mark it mentally and continue the story.
Once you eventually finish the Monolith, additional feathers become a different question. Our AION 2 extra feathers guide covers whether to store them or convert them after the current progression is complete.
Resources You Should Avoid Wasting Before Level 45
Kina is the easiest resource to burn because the game constantly presents small ways to gain a few more points of power. Avoid paying heavily just to cross a temporary Gear Power threshold while you are still leveling.
The same logic applies to premium Manastones, repeated gear rerolls, high enhancement levels on replaceable items, and limited dungeon reward resources. A few extra points today are not worth much if the item disappears from your build tomorrow.
Timed-event resources need a little more judgment. Saving valuable keys for Level 45 rewards can be worthwhile, but do not sit at a hard key cap and waste regeneration. If a resource has reached its maximum, spend enough to stay below the cap while keeping a reserve for the higher-value rewards you are approaching.
This is a better rule than either extreme of spending every key immediately or refusing to use one until Level 45.
Do Not Confuse Gear Power With Actual Character Strength
Gear Power becomes increasingly important because it determines whether you can enter later content, but it is ultimately an access threshold rather than the complete measurement of your character.
Combat Power accounts for the broader collection of stats and permanent systems affecting your build. Two characters can meet the same dungeon Gear Power requirement and still perform very differently depending on their skills, pets, titles, Arcana, Daevanion upgrades, and other bonuses.
Our AION 2 Combat Power guide covers those systems in more detail.
How Leveling an Alt Is Different
Your first character should do more collection work than your later characters because several AION 2 systems carry between characters on the same server.
Pet progression, Genus Insight, skins, and Feather Collection progress are among the systems you do not need to rebuild completely from nothing on every alt. Feather progress can also be synced from the character with the highest collection progress.
That means an alt leveling route can be much more aggressive about following the Main Story and completing whatever character-specific unlocks it still needs instead of reproducing your first character's entire exploration route.
If you plan on leveling several classes, read our AION 2 shared character progress guide before repeating collection content unnecessarily.
What to Do After Reaching Level 45
Level 45 changes the objective. You are no longer trying to gain character levels, and your immediate goal becomes reaching roughly 1,000 Gear Power so you can continue the final story content and open the larger endgame loop.
The fastest early route to 1,000 uses the same systems you should already have been touching while leveling: Regional Quests for accessories and Daevanion rewards, Strongholds for Belt upgrades, Sealed Dungeons for Skill Points and Daevanion progression, Empyrean Traces for the Amulet, and Expeditions for stronger gear.
Level 45: Build toward 1,000 Gear Power
After 1,000: Finish the later story and begin Abyss and Nightmare progression
Around 1,400: Start moving into Conquests
Around 1,600: Begin Transcendence progression
Much later around 2,800: Sanctuary content becomes the larger target
Nightmares also introduce Clash Runes, which become another source of character power after the initial gearing phase. If you are reaching that point, our AION 2 Clash Runes guide covers the early sources and the later repeatable Nightmare route.
Pets also become increasingly important because their collection and Genus Insight bonuses provide permanent stats instead of another piece of gear you will eventually replace. Our AION 2 best pet guide covers which Pet Genus I would prioritize first.
The Best First-Character Leveling Strategy
If I were starting a fresh AION 2 character again, I would push the Main Story aggressively, grab Feathers already along my path, clear nearby first-time Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds, equip each Stigma as it unlocks, and avoid heavily investing in disposable equipment.
I would then use the final stretch before 45 to finish the one-time content I had skipped rather than obsessing over temporary Gear Power. That leaves you at the cap with more permanent systems already developed, more Kina and upgrade materials still available, and fewer old zones you immediately have to revisit.
The difference between a good leveling route and a pure speedrun is that the fastest person to reach Level 45 is not necessarily the person who reaches the actual endgame fastest. A few worthwhile detours before the cap can remove hours of cleanup afterward.
