Graveyard Keeper 2 Gold Guide: Nuggets & Ingots
Gold in Graveyard Keeper 2 comes in two different forms, and getting one doesn't automatically mean you can use it for the recipe you actually want. Golden Nuggets are the raw material, while Golden Ingots are a separate crafted item needed for things like the Golden Zombie Collar. The main hurdle is usually not finding nuggets at all, but unlocking the technology and Furnace setup that lets you turn them into usable bars.

Get Golden Nuggets From the Trademaster or Sluice Box
Golden Nuggets can be obtained in several ways, but the easiest method depends on what parts of Graveyard Keeper 2 you've already unlocked.
The Trademaster sells Golden Nuggets from the first trade level, giving you a direct option if you have the money. If you'd rather produce them yourself, the Sluice Box can generate Golden Nuggets while processing Sand once Gold Digger is active.
Golden Nugget Sources
• Buy them from the Trademaster
• Process Sand at the Sluice Box with Gold Digger active
• Convert Iron Ore using a Philosopher Stone later
You don't need to wait for some dedicated gold-mining location before you can start collecting it. The choice is really between spending money, using your Sand-processing setup, or eventually relying on Alchemy conversion.
Gold Digger Turns Sand Processing Into a Renewable Gold Source
If you want Gold without continuously buying it, the Sluice Box is the route I'd build around.
Normally, processing Sand there is associated with Tin. With the Gold Digger bonus active, however, a Sand batch can also produce Golden Nuggets.
The important distinction is that Gold isn't guaranteed from every load of Sand. Gold Digger adds a chance for the nugget; the normal Sluice Box output by itself does not mean every batch contains Gold.
Sluice Box Gold Setup
• Build and use the Sluice Box
• Process Sand normally
• Have Gold Digger active
• Golden Nuggets can appear as an additional result
• Don't expect a nugget from every Sand batch
I would use this as the main repeatable source once it's available. Buying a few nuggets is fine when you're trying to finish one immediate craft, but generating them while processing Sand avoids tying every future Golden Ingot to your Silver supply.
Smelt 3 Golden Nuggets Into 2 Golden Ingots
Once the Golden Ingot recipe is unlocked, take 3 Golden Nuggets to Furnace II equipped with the Bellows extension.
The recipe consumes 30 Fuel and requires Mastery 4. A normal batch produces 2 Golden Ingots.
Golden Ingot Recipe
• 3 Golden Nuggets
• 30 Fuel
• Furnace II
• Bellows extension
• Mastery 4
• Produces 2 Golden Ingots
If you have Fireman, the same batch produces 3 Golden Ingots instead of the normal two.
That makes Fireman particularly valuable if Gold is being used repeatedly rather than for a single craft, since it effectively turns the three nuggets going into the Furnace into three usable bars.
The Bellows themselves require 4 Wooden Planks, 4 Bronze Nails, and 2 Leather Scrolls, so don't assume Furnace II alone is enough to make the recipe appear.
Unlock Reanimation II if the Golden Ingot Recipe Is Missing
If you already have Golden Nuggets, Furnace II, and Bellows but still cannot find the Golden Ingot recipe, check the Anatomy and Alchemy technology tree.
The smelting recipe comes from Reanimation II.
Reanimation II costs 100 Blue Tech Points and sits after Reanimation Liquid in that branch. This is why you can accumulate a stack of Golden Nuggets long before the Furnace actually gives you an option to turn them into bars.
If You Can't Make Golden Ingots
• Open Anatomy and Alchemy technologies
• Unlock Reanimation Liquid first
• Unlock Reanimation II for 100 Blue Tech Points
• Use Furnace II
• Make sure the Bellows extension is installed
This is the step I'd check before rebuilding or upgrading the Furnace again. Having the right workstation doesn't bypass the technology requirement.

You Can Also Buy Golden Ingots or Convert Iron With a Philosopher Stone
Smelting nuggets isn't the only way to end up with Golden Ingots.
The Jeweler begins selling Golden Ingots at the second trade level, which can bypass the smelting chain entirely if you only need a small number and don't mind paying for them.
Later Alchemy also gives you direct conversion recipes using a Philosopher Stone at the Formulation Bench.
Philosopher Stone Gold Conversions
• 1 Philosopher Stone + 1 Iron Ore = 1 Golden Nugget
• Golden Nugget conversion requires Mastery 6
• 1 Philosopher Stone + 1 Iron Ingot = 1 Golden Ingot
• Golden Ingot conversion requires Mastery 8
• Both recipes use the Formulation Bench
The Philosopher Stone is an actual ingredient in these recipes, not a permanent machine upgrade that converts Iron for free.
Because of that, I wouldn't automatically use Alchemy for every Golden Ingot. Think of it as another route when the resources behind the Philosopher Stone are easier for you to replace than Golden Nuggets.

Save Golden Ingots for Zombie Collars and Higher-Tier Crafts
Don't treat Golden Nuggets and Golden Ingots as interchangeable inventory items.
If a recipe asks for a Golden Ingot, the raw nugget won't satisfy it. Smelt or convert the material first.
One of the most important Gold crafts is the Golden Zombie Collar at the Jewelry Table.
Golden Zombie Collar
• 1 Golden Ingot
• 1 Blue Crystal
• 5 Faith
• Crafted at the Jewelry Table
Golden Ingots are also used for the Golden Talisman and Blank Hardcover Notebook, so Gold remains useful beyond the zombie system.
If your immediate goal is upgrading your undead workforce, I'd avoid selling the first few Golden Ingots you make. The collar is one of the more important uses for them, especially once you're investing in stronger zombies rather than simply adding more basic workers.

Use the Gold Method That Matches What You've Already Unlocked
There isn't one Gold source that makes sense at every point in the game.
If you urgently need one craft and already have money, buying Golden Nuggets or an unlocked Golden Ingot can be the shortest route. If you want a renewable supply without repeatedly spending Silver, process Sand with Gold Digger. Once your Alchemy setup is much stronger, Philosopher Stone conversions give you another way to turn existing Iron into exactly the Gold item you need.
Which Gold Method Should You Use?
• Need Gold immediately: Buy Nuggets or Ingots
• Want a repeatable source: Use the Sluice Box with Gold Digger
• Already have Nuggets: Unlock Reanimation II and smelt them
• Strong Alchemy setup: Consider Philosopher Stone conversion
• Making Zombie Collars: Keep Golden Ingots rather than selling them
The biggest trap is stockpiling Golden Nuggets while waiting for a Furnace recipe that hasn't actually been unlocked yet. If you have the nuggets but can't make bars, Reanimation II in Anatomy and Alchemy is the first place to look.
