Graveyard Keeper 2 Beehive Guide: Location & Honey
Unlocking Beekeeping in Graveyard Keeper 2 doesn't immediately put Beehives in your normal base-building menu. They belong to a separate farming area west of your house, so you'll need to open the Vineyard before you can start building your own reliable source of Honey and Beeswax.

Build Beehives in the Vineyard West of Your House
Beehives can only be built in the Vineyard, located across the broken bridge to the left of your house.
This is why researching Beekeeping can make it look like the blueprint never unlocked. You won't find the Beehive at the normal Garden Blueprint Desk or among the construction options around your main crafting area.
Cross into the Vineyard and use its own build desk instead.
Where the Beehive Blueprint Is
• Leave your house and head west
• Cross the repaired bridge
• Enter the Vineyard
• Use the Vineyard build desk
• Select Beehive after researching Beekeeping
The Vineyard has dedicated spaces for its own farming systems, including Vine Trellises and Beehives, so unlocking the technology alone isn't enough if you haven't opened this side of the property yet.
Repair the Bridge Before You Can Reach the Beehive Area
If the bridge west of your house is still broken, you'll need to repair it before you can access the Vineyard and place a Beehive.
The bridge requires 4 Wooden Planks, 1 Polished Bronze, and 4 Pieces of Stone, along with a Hammer and enough Building Mastery to complete the job.
Vineyard Bridge Repair
• 4 Wooden Planks
• 1 Polished Bronze
• 4 Pieces of Stone
• Hammer required
• Building Mastery 2
The actual bottleneck is often Polished Bronze rather than Beekeeping itself. If you researched the hive early but can't cross the bridge yet, continue your metalworking setup until you can make the polished material needed for the repair.
The Graveyard Keeper 2 Polished Bronze guide covers that unlock and recipe.
Beekeeping Unlocks After Garden Improvement I
The Beehive blueprint comes from the Beekeeping technology in the Farming tree.
Beekeeping costs 50 Green Tech Points and requires Garden Improvement I first.
Beekeeping Technology
• Requires Garden Improvement I
• Costs 50 Green Tech Points
• Unlocks the Beehive blueprint
• Beehives must still be built inside the Vineyard
So there are really two independent requirements: Beekeeping gives you permission to build the hive, while repairing the bridge gives you access to the only area where that blueprint can actually be placed.
Each Beehive Costs Planks, Bronze Detail, and Bronze Nails
Once you're inside the Vineyard with Beekeeping researched, each Beehive costs 2 Wooden Planks, 1 Bronze Detail, and 6 Bronze Nails.
Beehive Build Cost
• 2 Wooden Planks
• 1 Bronze Detail
• 6 Bronze Nails
The Vineyard has room for multiple hives, so I wouldn't think of the first one as your entire beekeeping setup. If you find yourself consistently needing Honey or Beeswax, adding more hives gives you several harvests ready at the same time instead of waiting on a single station.
Built Beehives Give More Honey and More Reliable Beeswax
A built Beehive produces both Honey and Beeswax.
When ready, harvesting one gives around 3 to 6 Honey and 1 to 2 Beeswax. The hive then begins refilling again, with a full cycle taking roughly eight in-game growth ticks of one minute each.
Harvesting the hive itself is manual and requires Farming Mastery 3.
Built Beehive Harvest
• 3-6 Honey
• 1-2 Beeswax
• 2 Green Tech Points
• Refills after roughly 8 minutes of growth
• Requires Farming Mastery 3 to harvest
This is where building several hives becomes useful. Beeswax in particular feeds into crafting and Alchemy, while Honey has its own food and brewing uses, so a small group of hives is much easier to work with than running around the world checking wild ones.
Beeswax can also contribute to several Alchemy formulas. One useful example is Rich Growth Elixir, which has valid ingredient combinations using Beeswax.
You Can Get Honey Before Building Beehives From Wild Hives
You don't have to wait for the Vineyard to start collecting Honey.
Wild beehives are found around the world, including one located generally south of your house. These can be harvested for a smaller amount of Honey and a chance at Beeswax.
Wild Beehive Harvest
• 1-2 Honey
• 25% chance for 1 Beeswax
• 2 Green Tech Points
• Refills over time
That makes wild hives useful before Beekeeping is fully established, but built hives are much better if you're specifically trying to stockpile Beeswax. A guaranteed 1 to 2 per built hive is far more dependable than repeatedly hoping for the wild-hive drop.
I would harvest wild hives whenever you're passing them early on, then switch to your Vineyard as the main source once the bridge and Beekeeping technology are both finished.
Zombies Cannot Be Assigned Directly to Beehives
Beehives are not normal zombie worker stations.
You cannot place a zombie directly at a hive to automatically collect the Honey and Beeswax. The hive refills over time, but harvesting it remains a Keeper action.
This is different from the Vineyard's crop side, where later zombie technologies can automate planting and harvesting Grapes and Hops through Gardener Stands.
Beehive Automation
• Hive refills naturally over time
• Zombie worker cannot be assigned to the Beehive
• Honey and Beeswax must be harvested manually
• Vineyard zombies can still automate other jobs in the area
If you're trying to automate farming rather than beekeeping, the Graveyard Keeper 2 Zombie Gardening guide covers Gardener Stands, tools, crop tablets, fertilizer, and storage.
And if you're setting up zombies across the rest of your base, the Graveyard Keeper 2 How to Use Zombies guide explains tools, Mastery, Supplier Stations, perks, and crafting automation.
Build Several Hives if Beeswax Is What You Actually Need
If you're only after a little Honey, collecting wild hives as you explore may be enough.
Beeswax changes the equation. Wild hives only have a chance to provide it, whereas constructed Beehives provide Beeswax consistently. Once you have spare Bronze Nails and Planks, adding several hives gives you a much more predictable supply.
I would prioritize opening the Vineyard first, build one hive to get the system running, then expand the apiary as your demand for Beeswax increases. You don't need a zombie, fuel, seeds, or another production chain behind each one, so the main cost is simply constructing the additional hives and returning to collect them when they're ready.
For more farming, crafting, and material walkthroughs, the Graveyard Keeper 2 guides cover the other systems you'll need around the base.
