MW4 How to Get a Nuke

The Tactical Nuke returns in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, giving players the opportunity to end an entire Multiplayer match with a single devastating killstreak. Earning one requires far more than a strong game, however, since only certain eliminations contribute toward the requirement. Whether you're attempting your first Nuke or trying to make your killstreaks more consistent, understanding exactly which kills count and when to change your approach can make a significant difference.

How to Get a Nuke in MW4

To get a Tactical Nuke in MW4, you must earn 30 consecutive kills without dying in a Multiplayer match. Only eliminations made with your weapons, equipment, and Field Upgrades count toward the Nuke requirement. Kills earned from other Killstreak rewards do not contribute to the total.

Once you reach 30 qualifying kills, the Tactical Nuke becomes available automatically. You don't need to equip it in your loadout or select it as one of your three regular Killstreaks.

MW4 Tactical Nuke Requirements:
  • Required kills: 30 consecutive qualifying eliminations.
  • Deaths allowed: None during the streak.
  • Valid eliminations: Weapon, equipment, and Field Upgrade kills.
  • Excluded eliminations: Kills from other Killstreak rewards.
  • Loadout requirement: None. The Tactical Nuke is available to every player.
  • Reward: Calling in the Nuke ends the match and awards your team the victory.

The 30 kills must belong to a single uninterrupted life. Getting 20 kills, dying, and then earning another 10 won't unlock the Nuke, even though you've accumulated 30 eliminations across the match.

Which Kills Count Toward a Nuke in MW4?

MW4 distinguishes between kills earned directly through your loadout and eliminations generated by Killstreak rewards. This matters because your scoreboard can continue increasing even when some of those kills aren't helping you reach a Tactical Nuke.

Your primary and secondary weapons count toward the requirement, as do kills from lethal equipment and applicable Field Upgrades. However, eliminating enemies with a Killstreak reward won't advance your Nuke progress.

That means offensive Killstreaks can be useful for controlling the match, but they won't shorten the 30-kill requirement. If you're deliberately attempting a Nuke, prioritize staying alive and earning qualifying kills rather than depending on automated Killstreak eliminations to build your total.

You can still equip normal Killstreak rewards during a Nuke attempt. Just remember that their eliminations are separate from the kills needed to unlock the Tactical Nuke itself.

Best Strategy for Getting a Nuke in MW4

The most reliable approach to earning a Nuke is to avoid treating every encounter as an opportunity you must take. Thirty consecutive eliminations require sustained accuracy, but surviving between those fights is just as important as winning them.

We recommend starting with a versatile assault rifle such as the M4 or HAN 86. Both are capable of handling engagements across different distances, reducing the likelihood that you'll be caught using a weapon unsuited to the situation.

Play Around Predictable Enemy Routes

Objective modes such as Domination and Hardpoint can create opportunities for building a long streak because opponents repeatedly move toward contested areas. Instead of sitting directly on an objective, consider positioning yourself along a nearby approach where you can intercept enemies while maintaining access to cover.

You'll have a better chance of surviving if you can disengage after an elimination rather than remaining exposed to every opponent approaching the same location.

Avoid repeatedly challenging an angle once enemies know you're there. Changing positions after several eliminations makes it harder for opponents to anticipate your next encounter.

Choose Survival Over Unnecessary Kills

As your streak grows, the value of staying alive increases. Losing a fight at five kills is inconvenient, but dying at 27 means starting the entire requirement again.

We recommend becoming more selective as you approach 30 kills. Don't push into a building simply because an opponent disappeared inside, and avoid chasing wounded enemies through unfamiliar areas where their teammates may be waiting.

It's often better to let an unfavorable engagement go and find another opportunity than risk losing a nearly completed streak.

Use Equipment to Control Encounters

Flash Grenades can help you challenge occupied positions or escape encounters where an opponent has the advantage. Lethal equipment such as Semtex can pressure enemies hiding behind cover and potentially contribute a qualifying elimination.

For a Nuke attempt, we'd favor equipment that helps you survive and control an engagement over options that encourage unnecessary aggression.

Pay attention to your ammunition and opportunities to reload as well. A lengthy streak can involve several consecutive gunfights, and getting caught with an empty magazine at close range is an avoidable way to lose your progress.

Avoid Changing Your Playstyle Near 30 Kills

One of the biggest mistakes during a Nuke attempt is becoming overly aggressive once the goal is within reach. If you've reached 25 kills by controlling sightlines and taking favorable engagements, abandoning that approach to chase the remaining five defeats the purpose of everything that worked beforehand.

Continue using the same positions, movement habits, and engagement distances that helped you build the streak. The final few eliminations don't require a different strategy, only the patience to finish without dying.

How to Call In a Tactical Nuke in MW4

After earning 30 qualifying kills without dying, MW4 displays a notification indicating that the Tactical Nuke is available. You can then activate it using the on-screen Killstreak prompt.

Calling in the Nuke triggers a special sequence that ends the current Multiplayer match and awards your team the victory. The explosion also features a unique animation showing your Operator being caught in the blast.

Unlike ordinary Killstreak rewards, the Tactical Nuke doesn't occupy one of your three selected Killstreak slots. There's no separate unlock challenge or loadout configuration required before attempting one.

If you're struggling to reach the 30-kill requirement, focus on improving your consistency with a single weapon before attempting longer streaks. A comfortable assault rifle, predictable positioning, and avoiding unnecessary risks will generally serve you better than constantly switching loadouts or chasing enemies across the map.
