AION 2 How to Drop Items

AION 2 does not let you physically drop an item onto the ground, but you can permanently remove many items from your Cube with the trash-can option. Gear is usually better handled through Item Extraction instead, while some protected or special items cannot be manually deleted at all.

How to Drop Items in AION 2

Open your Cube, select the item you want to remove, then use the trash-can icon if that item can be deleted. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

This permanently removes the item rather than placing it somewhere in the world. AION 2 does not use a traditional MMO system where you drag an item out of your inventory and leave a loot bag on the ground.

Normal disposable item: Select it in the Cube and use the trash-can option
No trash-can option: The item may be protected from manual deletion
Old equipment: Check Item Extraction before deleting it
Item for another player: You cannot drop it on the ground for them

Why You Cannot Delete Some Items

If you select an item and there is no trash-can option, that does not necessarily mean you are missing a setting.

AION 2 prevents certain items from being manually deleted. This can include important progression pieces, special rewards, and other items the game does not want you accidentally destroying.

That protection makes sense for equipment such as permanent progression accessories that are meant to be upgraded rather than replaced. Deleting one of those would create a much larger problem than freeing one Cube slot.

NCSoft's Global restoration policy even includes a separate support category for requesting deletion of an item that the player cannot delete themselves, confirming that some inventory items are intentionally non-deletable.

If the item looks useless but has no deletion option, check what it is used for before trying to force it out of your inventory.

Do Not Drop Old Gear Before Checking Item Extraction

For unwanted equipment, Item Extraction is usually more valuable than simply deleting it.

Open your Cube, select the equipment, and look for the flask-shaped Extract option on the item's information panel. The extraction screen shows what you will destroy and what you will receive before you confirm it.

Extracting old equipment can return upgrade materials such as Enhance Stones, and eligible equipment can also contribute its appearance to your cosmetic collection.

That means deleting gear just to gain one Cube slot can throw away resources you could have recovered from the same item.

Our AION 2 dismantle gear guide covers the extraction process itself, while the what to do with old gear guide goes through the other options for equipment you no longer need.

Use the Item Type to Decide How to Get Rid of It

The fastest way to clear inventory space is not to delete everything with a trash icon. Different item types have different exit routes, and deleting should usually be the last one.

Worthless normal item: Delete it
Old equipment: Extract it first
Useful unbound item: Consider the Market
Important progression item: Keep or store it
Non-deletable special item: Check its purpose or contact support

This matters because inventory clutter in AION 2 is not always junk. Some items that look like obsolete equipment or currencies continue feeding permanent upgrade systems later.

Can You Drop Items for Friends in AION 2?

No. On AION 2 Global, you cannot drop an item onto the ground so another player can pick it up.

NCSoft also disabled direct player-to-player trading on Global as an anti-bot measure. The Market remains the main trading system for eligible items, so handing a weapon, material, or stack of Kina directly to a friend is not an alternative way to clear your inventory.

Our AION 2 trading guide covers what you can still sell and transfer through Global's trading systems.

This gives "drop item" two very different answers:

Drop because you want it gone: Delete or extract it
Drop because you want a friend to take it: Not supported on Global

Some Founder’s Pack Duplicates Cannot Be Dropped Yet

There is currently a specific exception worth knowing about if a duplicate Founder’s Pack item is taking up inventory space.

NCSoft acknowledged that some duplicate Founder’s Pack items can remain in the inventory without a way to discard them. The October 7 patch notes say a feature allowing those duplicates to be discarded is planned for a later update.

So if one of those items has no trash-can option, repeatedly relogging or looking for a hidden delete command is unlikely to solve it. The missing discard functionality is known by the developer.

What if You Deleted an Item by Mistake?

Stop before replacing or recreating the item if you realize immediately that you deleted the wrong thing.

NCSoft's Global restoration policy says an item deleted by mistake can be eligible for restoration once per account per year. Mistaken Item Extraction also has a separate once-per-account-per-year restoration category, although restoration is subject to the policy and is not guaranteed in every circumstance.

That makes the confirmation screen worth actually reading when removing valuable equipment. Using your limited restoration eligibility because you deleted the wrong item while clearing a full Cube is avoidable.

There is also a separate support process for items that cannot be deleted by the player at all. If support deletes one after you consent to its removal, NCSoft states that the same item cannot then be restored.

Delete Only When the Item Has No Better Use

If your goal is simply to free Cube space, the trash can is the fastest answer, but it should not automatically be the first answer for every item.

Extract unwanted gear for materials, sell worthwhile unbound items through the Market, keep protected progression pieces, and delete ordinary clutter when there is genuinely nothing useful left to do with it.

And if you were searching for how to "drop" an item specifically so another player can grab it, that is the one option AION 2 Global does not provide.
