AION 2 What Progress Is Shared Between Characters
Making an alt in AION 2 does not mean repeating every collection system from the beginning, but your second character also does not inherit everything your main has earned. The game splits its systems between server-wide progression and character-specific progression, which makes the distinction important before you start investing time into another class.
The biggest thing to watch is the word server. Most of the progression that carries between characters is shared with characters on the same server rather than functioning as completely account-wide progress across every server.

What Progress Is Shared Between Characters in AION 2?
Characters on the same AION 2 server share several collection-based systems, including pet progression, Genus Insight, your skin collection, and Empyrean Trace Feather progress. Some recurring activity limits are also shared across the server roster rather than giving every alt a completely separate allowance.
Pets: Shared between characters on the same server
Pet Levels and Genus Insight: Shared server-wide
Skins and Closet: Shared with same-server characters
Feather Collection: Can be synced between characters
Some Daily/Weekly Limits: Shared across the server roster
Character Level and Gear: Not shared
Pets are one of the most useful shared systems. Pet ownership and progression are pooled between characters on the same server, including Genus Insight, so creating an alt does not mean rebuilding your pet collection from scratch. Current references to the live pet system describe pet ownership, levels, and Insight progression as server-wide. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="0"}
Your skin collection also carries across same-server characters. That makes cosmetic collecting considerably more alt-friendly, although weapon skins still have to be compatible with the class using them. Global players are already using the same collected outfits across multiple characters on a server. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="1"}
The important limitation is that this generally means server-wide, not universally account-wide. A character made on another server should not be treated as though it automatically inherits all of the collection progress from your original server. NC's own support system distinguishes server-bound items as items shared by every character created on that particular server. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="2"}
How Feather Progress Is Shared Between Characters
Empyrean Trace Feathers are a little different because your alt can sync its Feather Collection progress to the character that has already collected the most.
Go to the Monolith and use the Sync Progress option. Your alt's feather collection can then be brought up to the highest progress already reached by another character on that server, so you do not need to run around recollecting the same entire set of feathers every time you make a new class.
This is now being used by Global players specifically to skip the repeated feather grind on alts, with players confirming that the Monolith's sync option applies the server's existing feather progress. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="3"}
That distinction also matters if your main has already finished its Monolith and is sitting on unused feathers. Collection progress syncing and having extra physical feathers are separate issues, which we cover in our AION 2 extra feathers guide.
What Is Not Shared Between Characters?
Your alt does not inherit the core character progression that actually turns your main into an endgame character. Character level, equipped gear, Stigmas, and the character's own leveling path remain separate, so a fresh alt still has to be leveled and geared rather than instantly becoming a second version of your main. Current alt guidance similarly treats gear investment and the main climb as per-character progression. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="4"} :chatgpt-content-reference{index="5"}
Story and other character progression also still have to be completed on the alt where required. Recent Global players leveling alts describe going back through quests, story content, solo dungeons, Strongholds, and the normal gearing path instead of inheriting those clears directly from the main. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="6"}
Odyle is another useful distinction because it is not one shared resource pool between your characters. Global players testing alts after launch report that Odyle is tracked separately for each character. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="7"}
Shared Progress Does Not Always Mean a Free Bonus for Alts
One of the less obvious parts of AION 2's alt system is that sharing can work in the opposite direction too. Some repeatable-content allowances and reward limits are attached to the server roster, meaning making another character does not necessarily give you another full set of entries to spend.
Community documentation has specifically identified weekly dungeon entries and Supply Request limits among the counters shared between characters, while current Global endgame guides similarly warn that several activity limits belong to the server rather than resetting independently for every alt. :chatgpt-content-reference{index="8"}
This is worth checking before spending an entry on an alt. If an activity uses a shared allowance, using it on your second character can mean one less reward opportunity available to your main rather than an additional run created by having another character.
What Shared Progress Means for AION 2 Alts
AION 2's system makes alts easier to start without turning them into fully progressed characters. You keep much of the horizontal collection work you have already completed, particularly pets, Genus Insight, skins, and feathers, while still having to develop the new character's level, equipment, and class-specific setup.
That makes an alt especially useful when you want to experience another class without repeating every collectible grind. It is less useful if your goal is to create a second endgame character and have all of your main's power automatically carry over.
If you are making an alt because you want to try another class, our AION 2 what class to play quiz compares all eight classes around your preferred role and combat style.
You also cannot simply change your existing character into another class instead, so an alt is the route you will need to take if you want to play something different. Our AION 2 class change guide explains that restriction in more detail.
